Smith and wesson M&P series

I have a 9mm, a 9mm Compact, a 357sig, and a 45. They are all great. If I lived in a state that restricted magazine capacity to ten rounds the 45 would be an easy choice to make.

I have an M&P 45 that I really really like, maybe even love. Accurate and reliable. I recently bought an entry level 1911 in .45 and the experience (still buying various springs, screwing around with various fixes and this and thats) has made me appreciate the boring reliability of the M&P45. I have something like 1500 rounds through mine and the trigger has gotten even smoother and nicer than it did after the first couple hundred rounds.

I don't need one but I like my M&P45 so much I may get an M&P9 also, just because I like the M&P pistol so much.

I have a handful of full size (9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP) M&Ps and a Compact.

They are the pistols that I carry, that are in my BOB, and that I use at the range every week. Everything else that I own has been relegated to the status of a collector/rainy day item.

Do a search here and you'll find a lot of comments.

Lone Haranguer- Similar thing happened to me. I bought the M&P9. Fell so deeply in love with the gun that I went out a week later and bought the M&P9c.
Couldn't be happier.

I have four of the M&P 9mm that myself and sons shoot at USPSA matches. Great guns... If you're going to be shooting for competition consider having a trigger job done.

Got one, getting another

My bother got a .40 and loves his. I went to the range recently and shot a friend's .45, and it convinced me to get one myself (my first .45). If the store had had one, I would have also picked up a .40 compact as well to try and take advantage of the rebate.

Missed the deadline - but oh well. I'll be selling my Glock 27 and using the $ towards getting the .40 compact asap.

PS - Long time lurker, but just realized this is my first post. Hi everyone.

I have the compact 9mm and just ordered the full size...taking advantage of the $50 rebate and free mags.

The compact shoots incredibly well. Trigger is very nice...don't think it needs any work. I've got about a thousand rounds through mine with not one single malfunction. Next up, Crimson Trace laser grips and possibly night sights...though that might be redundant.

I was skeptical when I first saw one. It seemed like just another knock off Glock. I bought a used Full Sized .40 S&W just to facilitate another trade. I had ZERO intention of keeping it.

When it came in, I just sat on it preparing to trade it + some cash for another gun, a Sig P226. I went to the FFL/range to do the deal and they guy, a good friend of mine let me shoot the first round. I almost crapped myself. First shot went right through the bullseye at 25 feet. The recoil and or muzzle flip was about as soft as a 9mm, and softer than any of my other .40 S&Ws. I handed it back to him and was getting very depressed that I'd just traded this gun away.

Lucky me, he wanted a M&P .40c instead. He sold the gun back to me with in about a month. I've taken it out a few times since and it was no fluke. This gun is very accurate. It feels great in your hand, very comfortable. Combine all that with the low price, rebates that have been offered and you have yourself one hell of a deal.

I mostly own Sig Sauers so my standards are pretty high. I've shot Glocks, own XDs, Walthers, and Rugers. This Gun kicks butt on all of them. It is the first gun to really challenge my loyalty to Sig Sauers.

You'll notice that a certain fan base of a particular manufacturer tends to howl whenever the M&P is mentioned. I think the M&P is a big threat to their favorite gun company and they don't like it. The M&P is going to knock a lot of guns out of the running for top gun.

I am about as Glock-washed as you can get, however, my wheels are already spinning on how to sneek an M&P into the budget.

Spent the last weekend at a training class and there were a lot of M&P's floating around (instructors were all Glocks or M&P's with one 1911 guy) amoung the glocks. Every person I spoke to loved theres and didn't have a single bad thing to say about them.

I'm a lover, not a fighter and I have enough love for two different gun lines.

The M&P9c is pretty much everything the Glock 26 wanted to be.

Yes, you have the right to make it, but what a completely unqualified statement. Back it up with objective comparisons.

Here are a few from my experience with the two pistols:

1. The Glock is lighter and smaller in every dimension.
2. The Glock has no less than 14 fewer parts to launch a bullet. (See Below - Warning: You may need a magnifying glass to see several parts)
3. The Glock can be completely disassembled and repaired in the field with a toothpick.
4. The Glock has over 20 years of well documented and extremely reliable service.

Now, lets talk about the M&P:

1. It's called a Military & Police model so it has to be good right?
2. It's a virtual copy of the Glock trigger group with a whole bunch of extra parts to make it California compliant and steer clear of completely ripping Glock off.
3. It has a wonderful take-down tool built into the back-strap. Never mind the fact it can only be used to remove one of three pins holding the the gun together and you still need a rock to pound out the two remaining roll pins.
4. After removing said roll pins, watch out when removing the fire control parts because there a few little ones that are going to disappear... poof. Did I forget to mention you have to pound out the rear sight to completely disassemble the slide?
5. 2 extra rounds, great. If you couldn't get the job done with the first ten, are two more going to make the difference?
6. Doesn't the grip feel sexy? Sure it is an improvement on the Glock ergonomics but we are not comparing silk boxers to cotton briefs.
7. It's a safer pistol. You don't have to squeeze the trigger to remove the slide. Don't forget all of the cops who AD'd into their wall lockers when disassembling their Glock for a good cleaning. All guns are always loaded, right?

It is a good pistol. Just not good enough to knock Glock off of its very high pedestal...

Which really means nothing. Less is not always more

The Glock can be completely disassembled and repaired in the field with a toothpick.

What if I don't have a toothpick? Am I SOL?

4. The Glock has over 20 years of well documented and extremely reliable service.

and that's wonderful for Glock, but was it a hunk of crap the first year because it was new?

What were you saying about "Back it up with objective comparisons".

2. It's a virtual copy of the Glock trigger group with a whole bunch of extra parts to make it California compliant and steer clear of completely ripping Glock off.

So I guess you don't have a problem with the M&P trigger right?

3. It has a wonderful take-down tool built into the back-strap. Never mind the fact it can only be used to remove one of three pins holding the the gun together and you still need a rock to pound out the two remaining roll pins.

A "rock"? Wow, I'll have to reread my manual.

4. After removing said roll pins, watch out when removing the fire control parts because there a few little ones that are going to disappear... poof. Did I forget to mention you have to pound out the rear sight to completely disassemble the slide?

Disappear he says, poof he says. I guess S&W must keep a lot of these disappearing parts in stock for the "poof" phase of the repair. YOU got me on the rear sight thing. Glock did think to make theirs plastic so it just falls off or breaks. I'm sure S&W would have done that, but they couldn't be so obvious while copying the Glock right?

5. 2 extra rounds, great. If you couldn't get the job done with the first ten, are two more going to make the difference?

And yet most Glock fans ram it down your throat that you can use a 33 round magazine with a Glock. So which is it?

6. Doesn't the grip feel sexy? Sure it is an improvement on the Glock ergonomics but we are not comparing silk boxers to cotton briefs.

I'll let that one stand... er uh, I mean fall on it's own.

7. It's a safer pistol. You don't have to squeeze the trigger to remove the slide. Don't forget all of the cops who AD'd into their wall lockers when disassembling their Glock for a good cleaning. All guns are always loaded, right?

Are you arguing with yourself now?

It is a good pistol. Just not good enough to knock Glock off of its very high pedestal...

You'd have to be as high as that imaginary pedestal to believe that. It won't even take 20 years

Well jeez. Looks like mtgale doesn't like it when you pee in the Kool-Aid.
:neener::D

Edit to add: Only teasing. not picking a fight.

I love my M&P .40 FS. I keep it in my nightstand with night sights and a TLR-1 mounted. Feels great, shoots great. I plan on getting a M&P 9mm Pro when they are available. I will use that for IDPA SSP and IPSC Production.

If I ever move to the USA, I will probably pick up a M&P Compact for CCW.
