If you gotta own one .22lr revolver...

I think the h&r 999 is somewhat of a sleeper in this category; 9 rounds, single/double action, top break for ease of loading/unloading, fully adjustable sights, nice quality of construction and finish- I would probably go with this one, if I could find one!

Sorry could,nt stop with just one!

I was asking myself the same question recently and ended up with a new Single Six in stainless 6.5". I would liked to have found a nice Colt that I could afford but that's not possible.

It's nice to have the ability to shoot the magnum also. It shoots better than I can and it is a lot of fun no doubt.

If I had to go with only one .22 revolver, it would be my 5" 617.

MY choice would be my 2" S&W model 34-1.This revolver is carried every day to kill varmits and occasionally a rabbitt or game birds. My gun is hard chromed and is very accurate despite it's small size.

First Handgun...

...10 yrs ago was a S&W 617 in 6" bbl 6 shot. Still have it. Took it out again today and its accuracy and smooth as glass trigger never fail to amaze me!

My L-series New Frontier shot much better than my 34-1, so I sold the Smith. Love that Single Action Colt.

My only .22lr revolver is a 4" Taurus 94, which is a nice shooter for what it is, but I plan to add a 6" S&W 17 or 617 to the mix sometime this year.

Double Action H&Rs....

If I could have only one, it'd probably be an H&R 676 DA convertible. It's the only double action revolver available (that I know of) that can fire .22LR or .22WMR. The trigger is fine, as is the overall finish and it's an accurate gun. And, H&Rs just keep on working.

Now, if I was limited to .22LR only, I'd probably still go with a DA H&R, maybe a 949 or 999. 9 rounds at a reasonable price. Not being a target shooter, I'm more concerned with solid reliability and, like I said above, these just keep on working. I love my '62 Plymouth Valiant for the same reason. It's crude and sparse but it always starts up. I wish I could say the same thing for my new van. Note: As I type this, it's at the dealer's again, broken down again, getting warrantee repairs. Grumble....

Anyway, below are my 5.5" & 12" barrelled 676s. The big one is a real tack drivin' hunter. They did make a 7.5" one and that would be my ultimate choice. I'll find a nice one someday.

I have a 50th Year Single-Six..
4-5/8" (or so) barrel, fixed sights, .22LR & .22Mag Cylinders.

WAAAAAAAY UP on the 'Fun Gun' list.

I had an S&W "Kit Gun" many years back; used it to teach all my kids how to shoot. Oldest son now has it, and is teaching his youngest (8-year old girl) how to shoot. Says she and 'Miss Kitty' are a scary accurate combo.....

While I would love to own a minty K-22, I have never seen one minty enough at the right price to own it. Therefore i would have to go with one I already have. A Single Six Bisley. I don't know why, but quite possibly the most accurate out of the box revolver I have ever owned. And I love the Bisley grip.

Ruger SP101 (No longer available in .22LR)
Ruger Single Six convertible (.22LR and .22WMR)

That is one good looking Diamondback! :D

Personally... I would never own a single action sixgun with a hammer block safety. What part of single action is unclear?
