judge a man's personality from whats in his gun safe?

From my safe (homemade of 1/4" steel and angle iron) and it's contents (Norinco SKS, M39 Nagant, single barrel 12g) you would almost certainly conclude that I am NOT and never have been "of money".

My truck would tell you that I'm a pig basically... it's always dirty and cluttered!

• A couple of ARs with 24" bull barrels, 3-12x50mm Burris XTR scopes
• A couple of scoped heavy barreled .308 bolt rifles
• A lightweight scoped .308 bolt rifle
• Some 1911s
• A USP Compact
• 3 S&W revolvers

I have no idea what that says about me.

My gun collection is just like me- very hard to pigeonhole. I love blued (or browned) guns with wood furniture- so I have 3 safes worth. Of course I also love single malt scotch and aged bourbons. I love practical "ugly" rifles and plastic pistols- and those are what I shoot the most. That might explain the motorcycles purchased based on performance and comfort- not prestige. I am at a point where I can afford pretty much what I want, and I still look for good deals on relaible gear.

Or as Grandma used to say, "if you ain't man enough without it, you ain't man enough with it".

Mine would say I am tried and true, like my near mint '56 Colt 1911, '62 S&W mod 10-4, ruger standard and MKII&III, 91/30, Marlin 60, and Rem Sportman 48. My Glock 32, FNP9, Rem 700 SPS and Moss 500 would say I can party with the best of them. My Ruger 77/22 is me showing off.
Yeah you can tell alot about a guy by whats in his safe.

It depends. If they are a true gunnie, you can't. True gunnies will have a bit of everything because guns are there "thing". Like me.

If guns are only a tool for another interest I'd suppose you can-
Big game hunters? Bolt actions with scopes.
History buffs? Lotsa mil surp.
Traditional types? Blued revolvers, of course.
Upland game hunters? A nice SXS shotgun, of course.
Waterfowlers: Semi or pump chambers in 3 1/2 12 gauge.
Competition guys? All black, all semi-auto generally.
CAS shooters? single actions, a SXS, and a lever-action.

A look at the bookshelves and the guns would tell me more. Add the closet, what's in the pantry and the fridge, and a peek at the state of the house, or how well one cares for his/her tools, and the pieces might add up to a useful evaluation.

And there's that saying about the man with one rifle.... Might come a time when someone who's an ace with one firearm is the one I'd want on my side, as much as I might take a fancy to the historian with a beautiful gun room with displays as lovely as a porcelain museum.

All well and fine, but I'd prefer the sort who, while not necessarily a master with a given weapon, is comfortably competent with anything he or she picks up. As Heinlein said about insects and specialization...

my brother says when the zombies invade he's coming to my house...so i guess my safe contents tell him i'm ready to take on the undead...;-)

If there is a corpse in your gun safe, I'm going to jump to conclusions regarding your personality.

hey, you should at least give me a chance to explain!

Why do I picture someone with a taxidermy of squirrel about to jump out of a safe to scare anyone who is snooping around? I may just have to see what I can come up with now.

Agreed! I picture the scene in "Secondhand Lions" where everyone thinks the lion is attacking the boy in the cornfield. They run into the house and suddenly all the young punks and irritating in-laws have Garands, Win M12s, whatever, etc. and they enter the cornfield together. Each (Texan) knowing their gun and gun safety.

That's my vision of anyone who messes with America. A gun is a gun. Even Liberal Americans will step up to the plate when attacked. We'll figure it out and defend ourselves.

by looking in some one's safe, you can usually tell
how much disposable income he has....

some of us have less than others
some have more

i am guessing we all wish we had lots more!

Other than perhaps identifying a Fudd vs. a BRD-type guy or some other generalities, I'm not sure I would rely heavily on the contents of a safe to analyze someone.

Take someone I know, for example:

What's that tell you about them?

Nice Tactical Girls Gun Calendar in the safe.
never thought about doing that. Great Idea.

ahem. This certain individual had to put it there because his girlfriend wasn't happy that it was a personally autographed calendar by the girls on each page...

GF threatened to deface those pages and we couldn't have that, now could we?

Between my gun safe and my library, yes, you will get a fairly good outline.

As far as I'm concerned, ideas and the ability to maintain one's personal liberty are two sides of the same coin.

So if "Molon Labe" comes to mind, that's about right.:neener:

Certainly true in my case. Cluttered safe, cluttered mind. Never mind. :(

I wonder what my sig line says about me , besides that I also own
WSAR-10
OlyArms M4gery
Cetme
British Enfield Mk4
M91/30 Mosin
Trukish 8MM Mauser
Mossberg 500A
Marlin Model 60
Anchutz 1449D
a couple of 1911s

John, what caliber are those Lacie drives? :D

1Tb & 250Mb.

HIGHLY recommend them... they are network drives for those of you who don't recognize them.

As in every computer on your network can access them simultaneously. Great host for things like movies, photos, documents, music, etc.
