judge a man's personality from whats in his gun safe?

I don't know what my safe would say about me, past this guy is pretty messy.

Um, actually, ammo tells alot more. That I spend time shooting. Probably atleast a couple hours on the range instead of just one hour, or a half hour.

I am typical Gen-X/Gen-Y construct. (You can tell age range by guns fairly often). It's either polymer and EBR, or it's milsurpy goodness. Not much inbetween.

consider this for a moment
no safe = no personality
multiple safes = multiple personalities
the second one i'd guess for many of my THR companions, sadly though... i fit into the first one
i just display them EVERYWHERE in my tiny apartment...
funny story, the other day i was out back talking to a guy who rents across the hall from me. we ended up chilling in the back of the building with some vodka and cranberry juice.... when i mentioned i had beer myself and a girl who was there went to my place to grab it (i had forgotten i had my rifle out....not just any rifle either it's one of my scary black one)
i tried to get in and out fast when i saw it but no doubt she got a good look at it... wish i wasn't so rushed the look on her face must have been priceless!

Wow he's got a lot of ammo, why so many spare parts for those AKs, he's got a lot of reloading components, why so many Mosin Nagant rifles. A lot of revolvers, why does he only have two semi-automatic pistols.

I do like cool guns not just the average junk that hasnt been bought up recently.

Yes:
Mannilicher Stocks
Old Doubles
Classic Smiths
Colt 1911s and Revolvers

No:
Mossberg 500s
Taurus Guns
Synthetic Stocks
Express Remingtons

It is OK to have guns from the "No" category but I am going to start judging you if that is what your collection is based on. Sorry that is just how it is.

The short answer is no.

These two happen to be next to each other in my small safe, what could you possibly guess from them?

But I have multiple safes, so maybe as kirklandkie said that means multiple personalities.

I think if you were to look carefully through my safe, you would get a pretty clear picture of EXACTLY who I am. This frightens me a bit, because when they come to take it, they will know just what type of person is lying on the floor bleeding to death next to it.

da wife read the premise and some of these posts over my shoulder.....muttered 'nuts' as she walked away. I'm left wondering which direction her comment was aimed

What's in my truck bed judges me. Crap or/ lack there-of cluttering my passenger seat defines me. A vehicle's appearance sets my life's standards outside my general sloppiness

Well then I must be a complete scum bag. I live on a farm on a dirt road. If I was my truck its dirty before I get home. The bed has various oil and grease stains. Usually bark from the last load of fire wood. Possibly a chain saw or a roll of barb wire. Man what will the neighbors think.:D

Yes I can be defined by my safe. American made guns, left handed, and very snobby about my optics. Since space is limited, maybe my safe needs a diet? Nope.

What guns?

I thought only the Police and Military could have guns.

I chose to get rid of safes some years ago. There is nothing around the house that even hints of guns.
No magazines ( reading or firearm), no targets, no reloaders, no coffee mugs, no clothing, no shooting glasses, ...not even a bottle of gun oil.

What guns?

Yes I use a cast iron skillet, roll my own cigarettes, and use a coffee plunger.
Excuse me, I need to check on recent posts in the cooking/smoking/coffee sub-forums.

You'd find a lot of commie guns in mine, but I'm not a communist. I'm practical, frugal, and always looking at, "What's the best I can get for my money?" I also like things that are a bit exotic. Because of this, you'll often see a lot of Russian designs because a lot of their stuff is damn good but can be had for a song.

I think what the OP is getting at is how some of us equip our guns and what type of guns we use. I have only revolvers, only .38/.357 and all have either Pachmayer Grippers or Hogue Monogrips. My rifles are either 30/30, or 30/06 all with scopes but Montana rigged so the iron sites can be used. All show signs of use and wear, not a safe queen in the bunch. I guess it shows that I'm practical, know what works for me and I shoot what I have.

Dont know if you could judge me or not by my closet.

SKS - very good condition, all matching serials
Garand - parts queen, IH reciever made in 44
Mossy 44 us(a) - milsurp .22lr
Coast to Coast .30-30 - mid 70's manufacture, only thing scoped right now
Mossy 500 with 2 barrels, one scoped and rifled

Heritage arms rough rider .22lr revolver
FEG Hungary 9mm
Rossi Mod. 68? .38sp
Remington Six Single .32 H&R Mag

Bet nobody in here could guess my age within a couple of years based on the collection. Looking at the rest of the closet and you couldn't guess whether I am poor or doing all right either though :)

No. All that a look in my gun cabinet will tell you is what guns I own. Some I bought, some I won, some were gifts, and a few were inherited.
One of the greediest, most untrustworthy, sneaking S.O.B.'s I know in this world has a fantastic and diverse collection of guns. Everything from a Freedom Arms .454 to a Galil to a Perazzi 12 gauge. All NIB. All carefully and immaculately stored. I wouldn't trust him if he said the sun would set in the west today.
OTOH, there is a fellow I work with who doesn't own a single gun who is the type of person often described as "salt of the Earth."
Ownership of guns isn't a reliable indicator of anything except ownership of guns.

What's it say about me? I live in an apartment, and have a Ruger 9 in the nightstand by my GF's side of the bed, My XD 40 in a holster hanging from my holster on my bedpost, A Mossy 18.5 loaded behind the door and a AR under my bed?

I'll take a stab at profiling browningguy....
* Probably wears glasses or contacts (as evidenced by scopes, note no iron sights)
* Has a liking for nice things, moderate perfectionist (Note the condition of SKS, like new)
* Appreciates quality, prefers to spend a little more for things that last.
* Likes things complete (note each rifle has all the accessories)
* Doesn't drive a Volvo
* Likes a good steak on the grill
* Occasionally wears a tie and wingtips

.....how did I do?

OK, what does this mean about me? Dozens (literally) of AK's, AR's, M1A's, subguns. A half dozen long range rifles, lots of suppressors, a few belt feds and "assault" shotguns.

I think it means I am a compulsive buyer with poor impulse control when it comes to obsessive collecting. But I am curious what you guys think.

* As a youngster you played with Army men or GI-Joe
* Watched every war movie and military related TV show.
* Like the outdoors and camping.
* Have short hair or no hair
* Drive a pickup truck
* Politically you're a conservative
* Eat pizza

It could, but I think it depends on who's looking. Someone with no familiarity with guns might look at one of our collections -- any of us -- and say, "Wow, you sure have a lot of armament. What do you do with all those?"

I think the contents of our bookshelves might tell them more . . .

A gun safe tends to hold more than just guns. In some you will find documents, coin collections, pictures, grandmas silver, jewelery, gun accessories, etc....... Each of these things and the fact that they are obviously valued, speaks volumes. Any good LE profiler could probably look in any of our safes and know all they need too. The most important thing looking in my safe should tell someone, is, STAY THE PHAWK AWAY AND DON'T MESS WITH WHAT'S MINE!
