I'm now thinking about a pistol, probably in .380, that I can keep in my pocket while in the house. That alleviates the problem of having one or more stashed in various locations on the first floor. (My kids are grown, so no small children around except for visitors).
I think I would like the LCP but none are available except on the internet. I have not seen one in person. I was also told at a gun show last week that there is some legal hangup with the LCPs, so it may be a while before they become available.
I then considered the P3AT, but read somewhere that they don't have a latch to hold the slide open. If that is correct, that would make clearing jams problematic.
So I see that there are Bersas, Berettas and a few others. What would you recommend considering I would like to be able to hold the slide open, pocket carryable and in .380. I guess reliable goes without saying, even though I just said it. I don't want to spend a ton of money on this. Used would be OK too. Hoping to keep it under $350. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Also kel tec has the p9 and p11 in 9mm if you don't mind a little more recoil. P11 does have a slide catch, I think the p9 does too.

The beretta in .32 is pocket size, but doesn't have an extractor (if you're worried about clearing jams, it's a deal breaker). The .380's are too big for pocket carry IMO.

Good luck on the search.

b.s.

b. s on the legal hold up on the lcp.s they have pumped out over 60,000 of them. Ruger says one every 52 seconds. Only hold up is availability. they are just hard to find. Most gun shows willhave them, there out there, just keep looking

a darn nice gun IMO. I have 1350 rounds through my lcp and it has never missed a beat. I paid $300 at a gun show 7 months ago....

The LCP sounds good to me, but no one at the gun show had one. This was in the Baltimore area so it wasn't a tiny show either. Just telling you what the guy told us. My buddy is looking for one and I'd at least like to hold one.

Buy yourself a nice Seecamp LWS32 and be done with it. You'll never look back.

And don't confuse these with the Seecamp LWS380s which are VERY expensive and hard to find. My local dealer had 8 LWS32s selling for $449.

Good luck!

I love my LCP. If you are a potential fan, come join us at the forum devoted to the LCP, http://LCPforum.com/.

My pocket carry is an LCP with a Crimson Trace LaserGuard. I holster it in a DeSantis Super Fly. There is room in my pocket for a SureFire E2D LED Defender.

I bought everything you see in the picture over the internet. I bought the LCP through GunBroker. The last time I looked at the "last 30 days closed" auctions there were many sold for less than $300, some included shipping in the cost. I found an FFL agent from the GunBroker web site who only charges $12.50 per transfer.

I've purchased several used guns over the internet, so I don't mind internet sales. But living in the people's republic of Maryland, any new handgun must come with a fired casing (from the factory) to be sent to the state police. Don't know if out of state dealers will have that included with the gun.
I'll do some checking.

That explains why I got a little manila envelope with a fired casing. But I live in MO and they could care less, so maybe Ruger's just doing that to all of them. I'll chalk it up the the ghost of Bill.

I waited about 6 weeks for my LCP, picked it up today. $262 plus tax. They are available. I would take the time to develop a relationship with a dealer - even if it's just to tolerate taking your money. Storefronts are a final checkpoint in obtaining firearms, and having someone who knows you by sight can help. When you ask about obtaining some difficult or obscure firearm, they know you mean it and have cash to back it up. They will at least try to look it up and get back with you. No gun show can do that - it's all a crap shoot, and worse if you're from out of state.

I learned that life lesson hot rodding cars, and it works just the same on other high tech sources.

the kel-tec p3at, or the ruger lcp are nice little guns. if you can not carry one of these, you are naked. the p3at does not have a latch to hold the slide open. but i have never had a problem clearing a jam because of it. also, on both guns, after the first 100-200 rounds, you are very unlikely to have a jam. they do occasionally happen during "break in" which in all reallity more of a wearing in period than a break in. i have both pistols. if you have any questions about them, pm me. i will do my best to answer them (leep in mind, i am not a ginsmith, just an owner). also, like gunluvrnlearner said. ruger lcp's are out there. if you want one, you will have to call around to find a dealer who has one in stock. also, because of the limited availability, and high demand, you may have to pay a higher than normal price to get one. make no mistake, the distibutor isnt the one making the extra money, it IS the retailer. a lot of them are trying to make a quick extra 40-60 bucks on them. just because they can find someone that will pay it.

+1 for the Seecamp LWS 32. Tiny, effortlessly concealable, back pocket and nobody knows. (mine is in my back pocket now) High quality and totally reliable. 7 rounds of lead in a virtually invisible package.
