Are their any good bolt action rifles in 7.62X39 besides the CZ carbine. i really want to combine bolt action accuracy with massively available ammo.

I found that recently. But none i can find in online shops are in 7.62 sadly. thanks though. I must continue my search! [cue superhero theme song]

I would love to find a bolt action in 7.62x39.

I don't see myself needing a precision rifle that is accurate past 300 yards and I have heard the round can be accurate to 400 so it's perfect given all the ammo I have for my AK.

I personally don't like the CZ because I want an internal magazine, can't even really tell you why, just do.

If you're looking into a bolt action in a widely available caliber, I wouldn't recommend the 7.62x39mm. I'm not trying to stir the proverbial sh*tpot of hysteria, but you've gotta keep in mind that a lot of it is imported, and that can be cut off at any time by executive order. Hunting rounds can be hard to find, too, but I don't know exactly what you're using it for. Bolt action accuracy is good, but you've got to remember that some of that is due to the quality of the ammunition, and while good for general purpose work, a lot of the Wolf/ Barnaul stuff is far from what is considered match grade.

To be completely honest, I'd look at something in .223. Though it's hard to say without knowing what it will be used for.

man,i can't understand why people say these things.even if all of the imported x39 ammo were to stop coming it would still be available, more expensive but available.all of the major american manufactures have been making it for years and will continue to do so.as long as there is a demand, they will continue to do so,even if that demand were small.

the AK is not just a rifle from some other part of the world.it IS an american rifle, just not one that originated here.even if all the imported parts were to stop coming, some american company would pick up the slack.heck, all they would need to make are trunions, bolts, carriers and a few other things, every thing else is all ready made here.even if ALL production were to stop suddenly for some reason there are still many AKs for generations to come.even some future AWB can not stop the kalashnikov.(think saiga)

bolt action 7.62x39:
in production,

saiga bars 4-1
cz 527 carbine
remington 799 mini-mauser

out of production:you can still find them
ruger m77/no1
browning A-bolt cm stalker
" " mnt ti
remington 798-i do not recomend
winchester model 70
tri-star M10-A2-the best looking of all-it's based on NO.4 rifle-i do not recommend-you'll be sorry!

Do you want to go from barely any cost for ammunition and then get slammed as soon as a vast majority of the supply is cut off? I don't. I have a Saiga in 7.62x39mm, and that's the one thing I'm sort of nervous about when it comes to that rifle.

have you ever bought any american ammo before?it would be just like that and still not be as expensive as other ammerican ammo/calibers.

Mediocre Russian Caliber

A .243 Winchester should make any mentally-efficient TERRORIST cringe with fear. Any AR-10 in .243 Winchester caliber would cause a sensible Muslim to choose a different path of attack into the US. .223 Remingtons are cute, effective deterrents, but watch the effect a full-boat .243 round provides ballistically against smart-as# terrorists! A 7.62x39mm bullet is effective within 150 yards, so duck-and-cover! At 300 yards, a .243 Winchester is just warming up! Even with 100 grain loads, a .243 Winchester rules all military loads. This remains an AMERICAN civilian secret to date. Cliffy

Yes. I have. That's not the problem. It's the fact that you now have FEWER suppliers selling ammunition to a growing number of people with 7.62x39mm firearms. It's a basic example of supply and demand. Sure, the prices would go down eventually, but why get a caliber like that when there's that risk plus the other disadvantages I listed earlier when put in context of the things he planned to use the rifle for?

I do not care for the Zastava MiniMauser action (either in Interarms form or the Remington 799 form) solely because of the diminutive and flimsy bolt handle.

The CZ is a nice action, and is well fitted. I found a NIB Ruger 77 MkII in 7.62x39 about a year ago, and paid $550 for the privilege of bringing it home. It's a terrific piece, and I'm very glad that I finally found one.

Reload and it's not a problem so ammo availability is not a concern. Domestic production would ramp up pretty quickly anyway. 7.62x39 is my choice for a mid-range caliber. It was that or 5.56 in the type of guns I like and given I would just want a bolt action to punch paper out to three hundred yards, mostly 200 then it's for me. I like simplifying my calibers anyway and if used in a good rifle it's quite possible to do this as proven by a poster here who has I believe a custom built 7.62x39 bolt gun and he pushes it to 400 yards. The round should have enough energy left to make a kill if you were going to need it for hunting or whatnot.

Krochus, a member on this forum built a bolt action 7.62x39.

From Krochus

I built rifle based on a stevens200 action using a 1/15 twist 26" shilen match bull barrel, a leupold 36x scope and a choate stock.

It is apparetly pretty amazing. He claims to get less than .5 moa.

Use a search for the "match grade 7.62x39" thread for more info.

BUT

really want to combine bolt action accuracy with massively available ammo.

The massively available ammo you speak of is all russian stuff, which is inherently less accurate than most bolt action rifles. Even in a great rifle Wolf is never going to be shooting 1.5 moa or less.

Ive seen 308 and 223 group really well.. Rangerruck shot sub moa 62gr out of his 223 at 100yrds.

Amazing rifles that CZ make.. just amazing. Shooting sub moa with almost every factory brand.

Actually in my recent round of factory ammo tests Remington, Monarch and 154grn wolf all produced 5 shot 100m groups that were under 1.5MOA. Which I think is phantastic for ammo that costs less than $5 a box.

Okay maybe 7.62 may not the best [don't really care though :D] but between 7.62X39 and 5.56 which has more killing power at greater distances than 100 yards.

In my opinion in terms of hunting 7.62x39 has more killing potential than .223 at ANY range. I recently used a 7.62x39mm AR15 to kill a largish doe at 278yds

I must confess that I have never considered a bolt-action rifle chambered for that cartridge. Does the 7.62x39mm cartridge have some particular utility in a bolt-action platform that I have not considered? I ask this question in earnest because I never thought about chambering a bolt-action rifle for that round.

I think it's just a good practical cartridge. It doesn't kick very hard, it's cheap and it's suitable for hunting any deer sized game within 250 yards.

It's basically a rimless and more efficient 30-30.

Plus when you get a 7.62x39 that shoots good groups you can chime in every time some net commando claims it's an inaccurate round. That's about 1.3 times a day.
