I scared up a few bucks for a new pistol and looking at my list I see "need" a new 9mm so its a toss up between a Steyr M1A kinda off beat and strange, or a CZ 75D (that's the steel model with a decocker right?). So sell me on one or the other, eventually I plan on getting both, but which for right now?

CDNN has the M1A for $349
Who has the CZ in stock now?

I own two Steyrs (an M40 and my EDC an S40 ... both are first generation "pre A1" pistols). They're great guns, probably one of the best designed and built polymer pistols out there.

But the CZ is a classic.

If you're planning on CCWing this piece, get the Steyr.

But then again, if you're planning on getting both, get the Steyr now. Steyr is in limbo right now in the US market so unless they get their importer situation sorted out there won't be any more new ones coming into the US (Steyr Arms in Alabama still does the warranty work on them ... and they do good work with excellent customer service).

These guys have a lot of CZ75s on Gunbroker (couldn't find a link to their actual site so I'm assuming they don't have one). I've bought from them in the past and they're good folk.

Dunno if CDNN has the CZs too, if they do they'll likely have a good price. Download their latest catalog here (you'll have to call for prices on handguns).

As for which gun is better, you can't go wrong with either.

Not sure if you hav Academy Sports in your area, but they usually have the 75B for 429 but not the 75D

Buds i think has a wide range of CZ handguns

Steyr's aren't THAT offbeat. It's actually very similar to a Glock, right down to the tenifer finish. Main difference is traditional rifling (good for cast lead), an even lower bore axis, and a slightly different grip feel.

You can't go wrong with either one, though.

9MM

Another gun you might consider, is the Witness I recently bought the Match model in 38 Super they also make it in 9mm I also own the CZ85 Combat and I like the Witness better although they are very much alike
I believe it is the single action only trigger that I like so much , I only use it at the range so it really suits me

I owned and sold a Steyr M9-A1. There are a few polymer 9mm pistols I like better.

The CZ just gets better with use, it's a classic, and is more likely to be trouble free than a Steyr. Steyrs tend to be a crap shoot.

Regrettably, I have not yet shot either one. But I attended the 2006 NRA annual meeting & exhibits in Milwaukee, and the Steyr M9A1 was the only pistol in the show that impressed me. Fits my hand like a glove, and the unusual sight configuration just seemed to lead my eye quickly to a target. The only question mark is the quality of service/support in the US.

CZ. If you research the Steyr here and at TFL you will find references to the Steyr and jamming. If the Steyr were proven 100% then the price difference would be of consequence. Otherwise, go with the platform that has a greater following for very important reasons...CZ.
