If you had $13-1400 for an AR-15...

There, i fixed it for ya. Really though, the 6.8 it is hard to find stuff for any way you cut it, and is not as good a cartridge as the 6.5. (less energy, less bullet selection, and less long range performance [actually, less performance anywhere past the muzzle])

How come every time somebody mentions 6.8, one of the Grendel fanboys has to come in and try to convince others of how superior it is. You can argue argue ballistics with somebody else who cares about minutia, but fact is the Grendel is going nowhere as long as Alexander Arms sticks to their idiotic liscensing scheme. Just about every manufacturer offers 6.8SPC chamberings ... how is it "hard to find stuff for"?

S&W MP15T. Mine was extremely accurate with either 55gr or 75gr with no issues and all I put through it was Wolf.

The reason I sold it was the difficulty getting to the range so I figured I could use the $$ for something I would get more use out of. I still kick myself for letting that rifle go.

I'm looking to stay with the AR platform. I may consider a Sig 556 later if/when they are more pervasive in the marketplace.

Anybody know where I can get a 6920 for 12-1250ish? "In my area" doesn't really help me because I'm not in your area, but if there are locations I have access to I would greatly appreciate it.

CMMG -- the ones I have were great values & even better shooters ;) -- get the set up you want & don't look back.

Don't think you will find a Colt 6920s for that price these days. A good price for them last Summer before the current run up was $1275 - $1299. Interesting is that the Colt 6721 was going for about $150 less in the same time frame.

random lower of respectable quality, geissele SSA trigger, quality LPK, Magpul UBR Stock, BCM middie upper with BCM bcg.

I had that money. I spent that money on a LMT CQB16. I am unable to offer a recommendation above any that could possibly be submitted. I appologize.

I'd buy an LMT Defender lower for $330 or a soon to be available Bravo Company lower for $350, a Bravo Company full auto bolt carrier group for $159, and a Bravo Company mid-length upper for for $475. I'd probably at least upgrade the stock to a Magpul CTR or VLTOR EMOD for another $95-120 for a grand total of about $1,100. Add another $140 for a high quality rear BUIS like a a troy flip up, and another $150 for magazines. Now I'm out of money.... but after shooting the heck out of it, I'd probably eventually upgrade to a quality free float rail system from Larue Tactical, an Aimpoint CompM3L, and a good Larue Tactical or GG&G mount to put it in. Dang this gets expensive quick.... Trust me, I've already done all this.

The Colt is a good rifle. A local shop here in southwest VA has S&W M&P-15Ts and IIRC a couple LMT M4-type guns in stock for around $1400-1450, and they were running a sale on the S&Ws for awhile. Both are good guns. Unless you're planning to run a bunch of carbine classes or something, a Bushmaster M4gery will work fine as well, and most of those have been under $1400 recently. Bushy has upped their quality on their latest guns.

The tough thing about giving out AR recommendations is that prices are just so inflated right now.

I would re-build my current AR, then go about 150 bucks over the budget with an EOtech 512 (or whatever one that used AA batteries) and a good flip-up BUIS.

with a CMMG rifle, a few swaps in the BCG, a request for a certain upgrade here or there depending on your set-up, and a simple at-home stake on the extension plate, and you have an AR almost as good as an LMT (almost), but at least better than anything else under the perceived "top three".

I have a 16" Fulton Armory carbine that was guaranteed to shoot 1 MOA but actually does better than that whenever I've fired it from a decently solid rest. With service ammo it'll shoot under 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups center-to-center, and I can't complain about that.

it was well under your budget when I bought it although I can't say how Clint McKee (Fulton Armory) has held his pricing these days... I'd look if I were back in the market because they put together a nice reliable rifle.

There is no way i would spend that much money on an ar!!!!!!! Build it your self an save come on 1400 for that i can build all most 4 ar's

I have a LMT for sale, new. 16in Wilson Barrel, Flat top upper. $1,350.
I'm sorry, but LMT doesn't use Wilson barrels; they make their own. Someone else may have built it on an LMT lower, but that doesn't make it an LMT.

First of all, I call BS that you can build an AR for $350. Second, I'd rather have one quality AR than a safe full of junk. But I can't speak for anyone else...

I've never understood some people's aversion to buying quality.

So basically, If I am looking to get an AR within the next month or so for about $1300, there is no better rifle than a 6920.

That is what I have gathered. Thanks to all.
