Of all the firearms purchases I have made this past year, my favorite is an old Interarms made Walther PPK/s. One which functions flawlessly and hits where I aim it.
Only one purchase for 2009. Just picked up a Glock 17 the other day.. I'm sure there are plenty out there happy to see another Glock-ite among the ranks.
Not really a purchase, but a Colt pistol that I had redone by Clark Custom. I had been planning to drop this gun off with Jim for several years, and I finally got around to it.
Modifications include a Clark Meltdown without the big bushing, an Ed Brown thumb safety, S&W aluminum mainspring housing, a McCormick trigger, and a Nowlin Speed Demon hammer and sear. Finish is hard chrome. It has been accurized and tuned for reliability. It's one of my primary carry guns now.
This is what the pistol looked like when I dropped it off. It came to me as a $500 gunshow pistol with Good Year grips. The thumb safety, MSH, trigger sear and hammer were installed by myself prior to dropping the gun off at Clarks.
Smith & Wesson 65-3 with a 3" barrel, trigger job, and factory combat grips. hands down. Shoots GREAT and carries GREAT. it is my daily carry gun and one of my favorite to shoot. heck it may be my favorite period.
I've been extremely pleased with my FNP-45. No complaints whatsoever. Come to think of it though, it was sadly the only gun purchase I made, but more satisfying than the several gun purchases I made in '08.
2009 was a really good year, with 5 purchases. Two long guns (a .17 Savage bolt, with laminated target stock in left handed version, and a great 12 ga. pump 18" for my wife); and, three handguns. Two used and one new. The new one a Kimber Tactical II, was ordered on July 9th and just came in - will be picking it up next Tuesday.
The first used one is a like new, mint condition, High Standard Citation! What a sweet shooting gun, and when I say "like new", I mean it. The price was a mere $450.00! The second used gun was one that I have been looking for awhile. Many years ago I had a chance to buy both a Colt Diamond Back 4" and a Colt Python 6" (both nickel plated). I took the cheap, and only bought the Diamond Back. Kicked myself for years. Walked into my gun shop the other day and there in the case was a truly like new mint Colt Python 6" nickel plated. It was put on consignment just an hour before by the son of the deceased owner/collector, who told my gun dealer to price it for a quick sale @ $800.00! SOLD.
Will have to see what the rest of the year has in store?
I bought a new Remington 700 VSF in .308 with a Zeiss on top early in the year
I bought a Sabre Defence a while ago but due to circumstances I could only pick it up today
And then I also bought a P30 a while ago, which I think is a great gun
I also bought a couple of less noteworthy guns, a Toz 17 russian bolt action rifle in .22, an Uberti, etc, but the 700/AR/P30 are the 3 I'm most excited about
For me, it's a very hard call. I love all my guns right now. 2009 has been the year of the gun to me. This year I have acquired:
Mossberg 535 12ga shotgun (mossy oak pattern)
Taurus model 651 .357 magnum (blued)
Beretta U22 Neos .22 pistol (blued?)
SGL21 (saiga 7.62x39) (parkerized? and OD green)
and hopefully a,
Daisy Red Rider BB gun for $20 at walmart.
I love them all equally right now but the .357 has received the most attention.
If this thread is still going, I'll post pics of everything else this weekend.
I bought a LCP to replace my 'baby GLOCK' as my primary carry because more often than not I wouldn't carry because the GLOCK Was too bulky and heavy. call me a Sissy if you want but now I don't leave the house unarmed. very satisfied!
SA EMP 9. I love to shot this gun. Very accurate...never fails!
and my Spikes Tactical 22LR complete upper riding on a RRA complete lower. Very sweet, very accurate and very dependable!
I bought WAY too many guns in 2009. Still haven't paid them all off either (bad, I know). Most satisfying, I guess would be my first AR (S&W M&P15X). All of mine are pretty satisfying, probably because I'm the type who spends hours agonizing over most of my purchases, so I usually end up with what I want.
Hopefully in 2010, I finish paying off my 2009 purchases, and focus on ammo and reloading stuff.
Join the club. I took in 43 new ones (plus a couple of new safes) and only sold/traded away 22 in the process, all while supposedly trying to "pare down" the collection... in theory, at least.
Jim PHL bought one on inauguration day. That's priceless !
Wish I thought of that one. OK, well, the best one for me was the old Sig Sauer P6 that I found at a gun show. Not beautiful, but shoots great, light weight, hits where I aim, feeds hollowpoints, and hides well in my carry rig. Thinkin' about buying a second one, or maybe an old European Sig P220/Browning BDA .45 to go along with it.
