I have a Sig P220 St and am considering a trade for a FNP 45 USG. I like the larger mag capacity. I like the DA/SA trigger on the Sig, and the decocker. Hence my interest in the FN.

Being all stainless, the Sig is hefty and handles recoil nicely.

Not sure about the 'blocky' grip on the FN though. I guess I have 'average' size hands (disclaimer: I don't, as a rule, go around checking out other guy's hands, so mine is an estimate :)

I like the Sig build quality - alot. I could always use it as a club if I run out. I could shoot through a window - or just smash through it. probably a wall too.

I have yet to find a FN 45 in a store in NJ to handle the FN, so I am a bit at a loss other than reading what others have experienced.

Anybody know of a Jersey shop that carries FN 45's?

Any thoughts on comparing the two?

Thanks.

My opinion...... You seem to like the Sig that you have. Why get rid of it? I'd buy some ammo and another mag. Should make up for the capacity difference.

well... since you asked

I am not that accurate with it. I did a side by side with my Sig and my friend's XD 45 (not the M). same ammo, several types actually, including two sets of handloads. I did noticeably better with the XD. I just don't care for the lack of a decoker and the long when-is-it-going-to-fire trigger on the XD. I like the take up on the Sig, especially in SA. Moves a little then stops. tells me exactly what's coming with the next fraction of an inch. I like the control.

I also don't care for the sights onthe Sig - dot on post. And the decoker is hard to reach. I also swapped sides on the mag release.

basically I do like the Sig, but the things I don't like about it seem to be addressed by the FN45. Just wish I could handle one or better yet, shoot one.

So that's why... :)

FNP

I think that pistol comes with some different size backstraps so you can customize grip size. The guy who runs a local gunshop/range could have any pistol he wants and chose the FNP 45; in fact he carries two and he know how to use them!

I handled an FN45 this weekend, I found the grip to be too 'blocky' for my smallish hands, especially in the web area. I have a Para P-14 that feels much better to me. I passed on the FN.

I've noticed that the FNP says simply "14 round capacity." Is that a 14 round magazine, or 13+1 round capacity?

I wish I could actually get my hands on one to see for myself. nobody in Jersey seems to have them. When I look at the map of dealers on FN's website, they are conspicuously outside of NJ, though our dealer can order them (they're legal). Just don't seem to want to cater to NJ shops for some reason.

the capacity is 14 rnds in one kind of mag, 15 rnds in another. total might be 14+1, or 15+1.
