is there anything wrong with this 1911?

The issues seen in the pictures are a reason not to fire the gun until it is checked out. THe state of the barrel bushing should be enough to suggest that. On top of this the fact that the slide is going so far forward suggests that the barrel link and lockup are woefully out of alignment or tune and that there is an excellent chance that the barrel isn't locked into the slide lugs correctly at all. The gun you show in the pictures is full of evidence that it's a handful of parts that only actually met and "shook hands" when first tossed together as a group to assemble this gun. I would not shoot it at all until a smith or someone knowledgeable in 1911's checks it over completely. Otherwise shooting it could produce damage that will be expensive or impossible to fix. Or at worst a failure related to poor assembly could result in an injury.

The fellow you bought it from has all the earmarks of being a liar for saying that he's shot it and it groups well. The barrel bushing fit alone demonstrates that fact.

I would probably try to get my money back. I would only believe that it shot decent groups if I want to a range and watched someone else shoot it--I wouldn't touch it, personally.

Failing that, I'd probably sell it for parts. Yes, it could be made into a good shooter but that will require lots of fitting and professional work, which is expensive. You'd probably come out cheaper to buy a new one.

Chalk that one up to a learning experience.

You probably don't wanna know what that thing is actually worth. Get what you can out of it and buy something that you can look at a little closer and better look at. In my opinion, you'll spend more than it's worth with a gunsmith just to get it back to being right. Cut your losses. Sorry to hear about this.

Or if you can find a good 1911 hobbyist that knows there stuff in your area perhaps he'll take pity on both you and this "bitsa" gun and try to make it work. Not all the 1911 gurus are found in commercial shops. Some very good craftsmen do such things more as a hobby.

Here's a thought...
It's obvious you can take good pics.
Field strip the pistol and take detail pictures of the barrel-top, bottom, front, rear, and both sides, and one from the muzzle with bushing installed. Then the slide from all angles, and especially where the locking lugs are and the front where the bushing installs.
Then the frame, the breach face, and a look at all angles of the inside.
If you know how to detail strip it, show us pics of all the internals as well. This video will show you how to put it back together...

If you're lucky, all he did was put all the parts together(which it looks like) and didn't hack anything up with a dremel tool.
This could turn into a very interesting thread!

Bought from individual from online ftf. I should ve checked it out thoroughly but it was 830 and he had to buy stuff at bestbuy...

I asked him if it shot ok and accurate, his answer was yes and I took his word for it. I don't care if the slide fit to frame is off. I'd be happy if it shot decent groups
You didn't buy it from someone on this forum did you?

I sure hope it wasn't anyone on the Texas CHL forum either. If it was, please "out" him. He deserves it, and he deserves to never deal with any of us.

It won't take long to get what you paid for the pistol reinvested. Depends on what it looks like inside .
You could have bought a NEW RIA, American Classic ,Springfield, and others for less money .

Will I have to spend more than $200 to make it perfect?

You're asking the wrong people. We can only see what we can see in the picture. You need to take it into a good 1911 smith who will be able to strip the gun down part way, point out what is right and what is wrong and finally give you an estimate for parts and labour to make it right. Anything we can tell you is just blowing smoke since we can't use our Xray glasses on the pictures to see what is inside.

I'll take some better pics tonight. I Gave it a better look today and thought maybe a standard cap might fix the problem. I've got a full lenght guide rod in there now...

Ifthat doesn't work hopefully, I can get a new barrel bushing (really tight and will require fitting) to fix the front bushing problem.

Thanks for all the advice guys. This 1911 is giving me a headache.

Put 150rds through it today after inspecting it carefully and it shot fine. Grouped 1.5" slow fire at 7yds easily first few shots. I started shooting faster and it opened up to 4"

Pretty satisfied with this gun and will get sone work done if there is someone local.
