Bushmaster's original factory in Windham, ME is being shut down (I think in March) and most of the employees are out of jobs, but the brand will continue in production under the "Freedom Group," being made at probably either the Remington or DPMS plant.
OP, of your two choices the Stag is perhaps slightly better, but there isn't a lot of difference. I would really vote "neither," as you can get significantly nicer guns for the same or possibly even less money. Spike's Tactical is the best deal right now (in value for the money: a basically milspec gun at the price point of the cheaper brands), and some Daniel Defense offerings don't cost much more than your prospective brands and are top quality in every way, and above milspec in barrel construction (hammer forged 4150 CMV instead of button rifled 4150 CMV). BCM is also quite solid, but will probably work out to a little more money.
