I am very close to deciding on a new AR. I am down to either The Bushmaster MOE Mid Length and a Stag Model 3. Any input is appreciated.

Bravo Company! lol jk ummm both are good AR's witch ever will make u a good carbine if it where me i'd get the Stag i've run across a few bushy's with over torqued barrel nuts that shot 1 foot left with the sight run all the way 2 the right i'm sure bushmaster corrected this issue but it kinda left a bad taste in my mouth

I like them both.Stag is still in business and Bushmaster has been closed.Warranties aside anyone's parts can be used if needed.Buy what you like.tom.

I've got a Bushmaster that works fine, but whoever owned them along with DPMS, Remington, Marlin, and a bunch of other gun companies shut Bushmaster down a little while back. Not really a problem because good AR parts are good AR parts in case something breaks or needs to be replaced.

Dang was quicker on the keyboard than me....

I am leaning toward the Stag. From what I've heard their CS is great...just in case. I didn't realize that Busmaster was shut down.

i had no idea Bushmaster was shut down. all the stores around here have them in stock are they done making AR's all together or just moving the plant 2 another location?

Bushmaster's original factory in Windham, ME is being shut down (I think in March) and most of the employees are out of jobs, but the brand will continue in production under the "Freedom Group," being made at probably either the Remington or DPMS plant.

OP, of your two choices the Stag is perhaps slightly better, but there isn't a lot of difference. I would really vote "neither," as you can get significantly nicer guns for the same or possibly even less money. Spike's Tactical is the best deal right now (in value for the money: a basically milspec gun at the price point of the cheaper brands), and some Daniel Defense offerings don't cost much more than your prospective brands and are top quality in every way, and above milspec in barrel construction (hammer forged 4150 CMV instead of button rifled 4150 CMV). BCM is also quite solid, but will probably work out to a little more money.

Bushmaster hasn't been shut down but the Lake Havasu, AZ and Maine plants are closed/closing. They will be made at the NY Remington plant.

Neither would be my top two choices but if pressed I'd get a Stag over BM. Throw a C in the mix (BCM) or a couple Ds and now yer talkin'.

yep the Spikes is deff the best deal going right now. if you have your heart set on a Stag i say go for it! i would recommend dropping in a BCM bolt.(they are HP MP tested+shot penned)

My brother loves his Bushmaster, has had it several years with no issues. I'm getting ready to purchase my first AR and i'm leaning towards the Stag, read a lot of good reviews. Will shoot the S&W M&P before i lay my money down.

I owned a stag AR lefty, great gun with no problems. I would go with a Spikes Tactical for about $800. If you can buy the Stag for allot less then maybe.

BCM is great but it will cost you a little more.

I haven't shot a Stag but my Bushmaster has performed flawlessly. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Bushmaster.

Stag customer service

I bought a mod. 6L. Didn't shoot well. Checked w/borescope, found a buggered gas port hole and rough bore. Contacted CS, sent in and they installed a new bbl. even though I had already threaded muzzle for compensator. Had it back in two weeks! :)

A couple of Things.

1: Bushmaster is not closing. They closed one plant. This happens when companies merge and are brought under the same umbrella.

2: Don't buy either. You owe it to yourself to buy quality. You can get BCM, DD, or even a Spikes in that price range and would be much better served.

Go with your gut.

"gut" is no substitute for knowledge when making a purchase of a weapon.

are overrated and over priced for the common weekend plinker.

Funny since they are priced about the same as a Bushmaster or Stag. And they do it without the corner cutting.

Actually no I was wrong. The bushmaster MOE Middy he is looking at is actually more than a similarly speced out BCM and a lot more than a Spikes.

What was it you were trying to say again?

I have Bushies, CMMGs, and even and old Del-ton. Would grab any of them and feel they will do me right. Parts are not that expensive so if something would need to be replaced then I would just replace it. Not expecting to replace anything until the 10,000 round mark unless it is an ejector spring or something. Maybe I lucked out. If you are going to be shooting 3000 rounds a weekend and running the weapon until she smokes and glows then for sure go with a weapon designed for those kind of activities. Not saying mine would not work for that but it is not my style of shooting so I will never find out. I have to lean for the Spikes also because I have heard many good things about their equipment. For me I just look for deals and if there is something I do not like I change the offending part out.

good comparison thread

It does not matter what wonderful information the OP is given. He or she will buy what they like regardless. This OP is leaning towards the Stag. There must be a Stag within reach and that is fine. The OP will be happy with the Stag and will even post pics on the forum with targets. :D:neener:

Bushmaster and stag are both sub par guns. Buy from a reputable company and never look back. You can put together a BCM for under $1000 so there is no point in buying a rifle that isn't built to spec. For just a little more you can also get complete rifles from DD, LMT, or Colt.

Stag gets my vote. I own one and can't be happier. Lots of info on these sites, but go find me a bad review on a stag. Are you going to war, or going to the range??? If your going to war, get an AK. Milspec this and milspec that, chrome this and chrome that...Stag, BM, rock River all make fine rifles for most people. Maybe some of the bad ass warriors on this site need others, but for 99.9 % of them they wouldn't know the difference if you blindfolded them.

when i got my stag a few years ago, it was double-feeding, idk the proper terminology, but every time i shot it would spit out to rounds rapidly, almost like 3 round burst. i called stag and shipped it to them, had it back in 2-3 weeks no questions asked and it has been a decent gun ever since. im not a huge AR geek so spending a ton of money on one didnt make alot of sense for me, so i suppose im pretty happy with stag. it shoots just as well to me as my friend's AR, which he's sunk something like 5k into lol.

The last two posters missed the point that for the same price a better rifle can be had.

Bushmaster and stag are both sub par guns.

I'm going to quibble here and say that I think Stag/CMT sets the average, or "par." That average is well below the milspec (or TDP for the M4) but I can't really agree that Stag is sub par when roughly half the ARs on the market are, in my opinion, inferior to it.

Before you flame, see my first post on this question.

I'd have to choose the stag. At one time, I considered Bushmaster to be a decent and reliable AR platform. I no longer feel that way. WHY? Maybe it's simply coincidence, however, whenever I read customer reviews on ammo, whether it's brass or steel, it seems that many of the people who have issues with whatever ammo, tend to start off their review with: "In my Bushmaster......" Meaning; it appears to me that bushmasters are about the pickiest of all the AR's when it comes to ammo. Now maybe there's a higher percentage of Bushmasters out there than any other AR and that's why there are more negative ammo experiences. It's also confusing consider most AR's use similarly produced parts, yet it's the bushmaster owners who tend to have many of the ammo problems. And the #1 important factor for me with an AR is reliability and dependability. That's means being able to shoot just about any ammo that might be available. I don't expect every individual rifle to be compatible with every ammo out there. But when a particular brand of rifle tends to have issues, that concerns me.

So I'm not a fan of the bushmasters. Not when I see M&P's and other AR's able to shoot just about any ammo on the market. I have shot about 5 different brass manufactured ammo and 5 steel case ammos. My M&P15 hasn't choked on 1 round from any manufacturer. When 1 or 2 rifles in a line has a problem with a particular type ammo, it's simply a personality incompatibility between that gun and that ammo. that's expected and I can live with it. When a particular make/brand of rifle has an issues with certain ammo; and others seem to do fine with the ammo; then the problem ISN'T with the ammo. The problem is with that make of rifle.
