What kind of quality are the new Ithaca 37 Defense models like? I prefer the bottom eject and the barrel being affixed to the receiver. I just want to know if anyone who owns one has had any problems with theirs? I heard that they can drop live ammo out of the magazine and I think the chamber as well. Is this true? And before anyone says get a Remington or Mossberg, I haven't had the best luck with either brand.

I've never shot a Defense but they seem to be well made.

Anyway, if a '37 drops live shells or double feeds them its usually due to the little shell stop spring getting weak, the shell stop it pushes against getting badly worn or the channel they both sit in getting dirty or rusty.

Keep an eye on that area and you're good.

Okay, get a Benelli :) (or buy a wingmaster instead of a budget express)

Excellent shotgun

I have one, and it's a awesome shotgun. Fit & finish are near perfect. Overall quality is excellent. :)
I order the Ithaca with the 18.5" barrel, and requested the barrel band. Didn't seem right without it.

whitecoyote

That's one classic "all-business" looking shotgun. Thanks for sharing.

I love Ithaca's ... I've got a model 37 (from the early 1970's) but it's 47" long and used for birds. Ithaca's are well made but, still, I recently went with a Mossberg 590A1 for my HD shotgun.

Good luck.

I have the 20 inch 8 round model which I bought brand new. The first time I took it out it failed to eject and it would drop an extra round or two while working the action. Called Ithaca and had a shipping label emailed to me that day. I got the gun back in about 3 weeks. It has been flawless ever since. It is a great handling gun. Buy it. Odds are you wont get a bad one and if you do the'll take care of it.
