Gun Price Sensitivity - Very Primal

Uh... I haggle over everything. My Mini-fridge at work was half price, the laptop I'm writing this post on was 25% off, my truck was valued at 12k I gave 9,500 for it, and I can go on.

I'm going to try to get you to knock the price of the gun down, and I expect you to try to do the same.

I'm not buying someone else's beers unless she's pretty, no ones shooting my ammo for free (I remember who I've loaned ammo to before), my vehicles are stripped not equipped to paraphrase the used car salesman's line because I put what I want in them not what someone else thinks I want.

Yep, I agree with the Scrooges here. I do my homework on every purchase, because I'm not made of money. I have made some decent buys over the years, and if the price isn't right, I can probably wait until it is.

I am 54 years old. Of the 66 motorcycles I have owned in the last 40 years, exactly two were bought brand new--the last two. Of all the cars and trucks I've owned, not one was bought new (well, of course they were all bought new...just not by me:)).

Of the 50-ish handguns I've owned since I was 24 or so, I bought three new...and the fourth may come this year. Of all the rifles and shotguns I've owned, none were bought new.

I also handload, so I can shoot more. In full disclosure, my first Dillon 450 was given to me by a lifelong friend about four years ago. I returned it to him when my wife bought me a new 550 two years ago. Then I bought another used 550 for $150. :) Now I have one set up for small primers and one for large primers.

The money I save on guns by not paying inflated dealer prices, rackgrade, doesn't take much effort. Browsing gunbroker or buds, buying, and shooting an email to my local FFL who does easy transfers is much easier than trying to haggle the guy at the shop to sell me the $400 gun for $400 instead of $650.

I too am a tite wad. I am not afraid to spend the money, I just refuse to spend more than I have too. It doesn't grow on trees you know. and when you are talking 5,10,or even 15% more on a $1000 purchase, well, i could get set up to reload for the new caliber instead of paying the extra.

The same guy that values his time at $50 an hour and factors that cost into whether reloading is worth it or not, will spend 20 hours of driving to gunshows and researching deals but of course will not factor that in to the $50 saved on the gun price.

I will support my LGS if their price is within 10%-15% OTD as to what I could buy online.

I'll spend a little extra to keep it local, but, some of my local gun stores are really high compared to online prices or big box retailers. On some guns it's more like 20%-25%. On other guns it's 10%-15% cheaper. It seems completely random to me, so I shop a few places now before I buy around here.
