I recently bought a Cimarron 1911 (sort of a cross between original 1911, and A1), which is made by Armscor/Rock Island,
I searched around the web for the best deal, and saved myself $100 bucks on one NIB in another state. Problem was I couldn't inspect it until it was mine. Well it was certainly NIB, I've owned enough 1911s and semis to be able to tell, but the bore looked horrible. I checked the date on the fired casings' envelope, and it was dated two years prior to my purchase. I called 'em up, and they confirmed my suspicions, that it was probably not cleaned, and two years later the bore was suffering from the proof-test (corrosive primers?). The rest of the gun was spotless and perfect, just the bore looked bad, so at first I was going to just send in the barrel for a swap, but the Armscor/Rock Island gunsmith I spoke with told me it'd be better to send in the whole gun, so the new barrel could be fitted properly, and also so he could give me his "$350 tuneup" for free for my troubles
It was just under two weeks from the time I sent the gun out to the time I got it back! I will be trying it out again next weekend, I am very satisfied with their customer service, they even called me with the tracking number when it was all done and on its way back to me
edit: why not add a photo, here's a pic of it . The 'spots' on the slide are actually a reflection of a leopard-print sheet on my ceiling that acts as a lampshade, the bluing is like a mirror, done for Cimarron by Ford's Custom in Florida
