The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

Found this group while hunting for scope mount for my ROA. I'd like to sign up.

I sold this to my brother many years ago, but he's now not legally allowed to play with things that go bang. He gave it back to me, but it was in pieces and in pretty rough shape. I sent it to Ruger for refinishing and they lost it in their facility until I called and reminded them that they had it. I was expecting a $130 bill but instead UPS showed up at the door with my ROA looking like new.

I still haven't found the scope mount. Does anyone here know if a Blackhawk mount will work?

I'm looking to replace the nipples on my Old Army as a couple of nipples allowed Rem #11's to slip and CCI #11's to need striking twice to set off.

I wanted to find some that still used the Ruger hex head and found some by Track of The Wolf that sell for $4 ea (SS) vs nearly $6 for others. He stated they were built with the exterior dimensions of the Ruger and interior dimensions of the Treso's.

I was told that Blomquist also makes replacement nipples that use the hex head wrench, but I've been unable to find any info. I sent him an e-mail. I hear he also has some hex head nipples that replace those on Pietta's as well, which would be perfect.

My LGS only sells CCI #11 magnums, and it's the only place close to me that sells 777 so I'd like for them to work with CCI's.

I went through a lot of trouble finding a 3/16 nut driver and would like to not need a new wrench too.

I've used up a lot of David's time with many questions and am a bit antsy and am nearly ready to finish the payment info, but I feel I ought to give Blomquist a fair shake. I'm not known for my patience though!

I would like to know from people that have used these what they thought about them. Uniformity? The fit of caps or lack of?

Anybody here familiar with either of these?

esims: That's great that they were able to find your pistol and do a good job on it all on their dime!

Wish I could help with the scope ring question...

It's been a while since i D&T'd a Blackhawk, or even had one in my hands.
But i do believe that the top straps on both the BH and the ROA are the same.
With the exception of a 1972 ROA that has the Ruger flat top design.

I own both a ROA and a Super Blackhawk, and a Weaver scope mount for the SBH. I just took some measurements and the SBH scope mount definitely will NOT work on a ROA. The ROA frame measures approx. 3.6 inches along the top strap and the SBH only measures 2.7 inches.

Thanks Jim, West PA! Ram lever on that smooth-top was a distorted casting. Replaced it w/stainless lever from "Midway". T'was what they had in stock. They carry alota ROA parts. Here's more evidence of my sickness.

OK...so here we go...
robhof & fogg64 ~
Sorry, fogg64, about the bad tip on parts at Midway! Last time I was there online (been a year) I bought several cylinder latch's, hammer struts, latch springs, pawl plunger springs, & cylinder pivot (base) pins. Nuts! Very disappointing! I think that's Wilson's Law. When you find a source for what you want, they discontinue it!

robhof, I'm old & I've almost learned some things. The best I can do is pretend to be a machinist:-D I made spec drawings for the whole mess, along w/text proceedures for all of it. Had to...too much to remember. I'll scan the drawings asap and post them and the texts if anyone is interested in making their own, or knows someone locally who can do the work. Wouldn't attempt it w/out a lathe & milling machine.

fogg64, yes, I confess...I made 'em. And there's no treatment for this sickness! Loading is a bit more time consuming. I made some tools that help speed up the process. The performance, though, is far beyond the hopeful results I'd conjured up in my pea brain. There's alot more to share on this topic. More pics and proceedures, grip frame changes, and action improvements. Again, if anyone is interested.

I will say this...so long as there are small pistol primers, I'm done w/caps.

Thanks Yous Guys, for responding to my posts. This is the first time I've put this stuff up for review.

Kindest Regards
Doak

robhof

Anything that improves the ROA is always welcome, just look at the number of hits on the many ROA videos on Youtube. We all would be very grateful for any advice, or improvements to these great guns.

OK Here's the spec drawings. Prolly gonna hafta post 'em in sets of 4?
