The way gun manufacturers are building new r/f's and making retrofit kits, it appears to me that the manufacturers are planning on the near obsclesense of C/F ammo and the guns chambered only for it.
I am not a conspirisist or forseer but just making note of what trends I have seen
When the election happened last Nov I wondered if there would be a new ammo/gun shortage and resultantpaanic buying of guns?
Couldnt thr Big 3 also forsee this? Couldn't the ammo manufacturers rmember Obama's first election and the gun related disasters?
Intresting about who dropped the ball? WHo is plannng on a sub caliber revolution (Due to super high ammo costs!) I mean People will still want to shoot.
Foreign and Domestic manufacturers seem to be aware as they have slowed production!
I guess they plan to phase things out or over to r/f's?
Think about it...

[manufacturers] have slowed production!
Um... no. Everything I read indicates that manufacturers are all running at max capacity.

And, to say that manufacturers are planning on switching everything from CF to RF shows a lack of understanding of how capitalism works.

Here's a quick and dirty lesson... Manufacturers provide what the public demands, because that's where the money is. If RF conversion kits are in demand, they will be supplied, either by those already manufacturing, or by new manufacturers that see a demand not being filled.

There's no conspiracy here.

ZVP, my ammo sponsor is currently cranking out close to 8 million rounds per week..... They are not showing down, they are actually going at max production.

No big revelation here as I bought my first .22 conversion kit back in the late 1980s. My latest conversion set-up is a TacSol unit that's amazingly accurate and a lot of fun to shoot.

Manufacturers who want to stay in business don't build capacity for demand bubbles. If a demonstrated ongoing longer-term demand develops, they may consider expanding capacity. Some of the production equipment the ammunition manufacturing industry uses is limited production, multi-year lead time availability. That makes it difficult to quickly ramp up production even *if* they have production floor space, trained staff and permits sorted out too. Expanding raw materials or semi-finished components flow from their suppliers is also constrained.

There is no phasing that I have seen or heard of. I feel your hypothesis is nothing better than a guess and not correct.

I've been shooting since 2000 or so. I can remember seeing cases of Wolf 7.62x39 for about $60. Walmart sold WWB valuepacks of 9mm out the door for ten bucks and change. I cant remember what I paid for surplus M193, but it wasn't enough to worry about. Lots of folks here have seen higher price increases than I have.

When I built my .22 upper, the only company that I can remember making affordable uppers with readily available magazines was Spikes - and they were so far behind on orders that they weren't selling parts, just complete uppers.

.22 conversions, and ubertacticool rimfires got popular because of rising ammo costs, which is one reason I have mine. Seems like everything I bought in 2000 cost about twice what I paid then, if I'm lucky.

Be interesting to see if all these first time gun buyers are going to create that long term increase in demand or if all those black rifles and crates of ammo are gonna get buried and forgotten in the back yard. I'm thinking that a fair percentage will discover that shooting sports are fun. ;)

Capitalism says that you prepare for the inevatable.

Duh!
DIdn't this same thing happen the first time Obama was elected???
I guess I was the only one who saw that,,,
It's a racket and they all sleep together!

It would be quite a laugh upon the gun and ammo grabbers that somewhere somebody has by accident found a way to create literally a power supply thats small enough to actually make the very first Star Trek phaser type of weapon.

And within months all the components are easily available or can actually be prinbted at home.

Then who needs an AR, primers or powder when you have a phaser pistol or rifle.

Its not a fantasy, the concept CAN happen.

And it all started when the guns were grabbed, the ammo restricted, people went and got busy working their brains and creative fabrication skills.

Wait, wait...what about the FACT that the powers that be are making all the RIMFIRE ammo disappear? I mean, that's about the worst shortage there is right now!

So it's a DOUBLE-DOG-DASTARDLY conspiracy to push us all out of center-fire and into rimfire, which doesn't exist! These manufactures are collaborating with the enemy to stop selling ammo altogether! Those JERKS!

...

Uh...never mind.
