I just bought one of these. Came with two hi-cap mags. Was less then $300.00. I've read several reviews good and bad. I am In the camp of very good. Fits nice in my hand. Points really good. Accuracy is superb out to 20 yards. And it has been super reliable. Any fellow owners of this fine weapon care to chime in

The Yankee Marshal.....

The Youtube.com gun channel host; The Yankee Marshal owns a S&W SD9 & really likes it. He posts videos about it.
I looked into a SD9 9x19mm for security work/CCW but I'm not very impressed with the fit/finish. I like the DA only smooth pull & the lifetime service plan but there are better values out there.
For $275-350.00 it's not bad but for a extra $100-150.00 you can go up to a M&P, Beretta, XDm, Glock.

I bought one for my grandson as a graduation present from college and I liked it so much I bought one for myself for $299. I did not need another 9mm but it is such a great bargain I had to have one. I like it better than any of the more expensive pistols , including Glock. The trigger is just right at 7.5lbs as you must want to fire the gun when pulling this trigger and I prefer it to the lighter triggers. It makes a great house gun and sits in my bedroom nearby ready for duty.

I have owned the Sigma 9 & now own the SD9VE. It is one of the best deals that you can get in a modern 9mm! I know several other SD9VE owners as well, who also love theirs . This and the SD40VE are well made pistols & make fine S.D.& E.D.C. guns! With great C.S. if you ever need it & its reputation, these are great bargains! ;)

I have the 9ve and g19. Size and weight are nearly identical and my desantis holster fits both. The s&w holds 16 vs 15 rounds/mag, lifetime vs 1yr warranty, and most importantly, it is more accurate.

I've got the SD40VE myself. I'm mostly a 9mm guy and just wanted something in .40 to play around with so I bought it about 1.5 - 2 years ago. Pretty good gun IMHO. The trigger is a tad heavy (even after an Apex spring upgrade), and I don't like that the mags rattle when full, but it feels good in the hand and is relatively accurate.

Mine has had trouble with American Eagle ammo but no other brands. Even the issues with the American Eagle have seemed to smooth out with use.

Yup, great gun! Fit and finish excellent! Accurate, greatly improved trigger, price can't be beaten. I've shot the M&P and I like the SD9 better. I've shot the Glock 19 and I really like the SD9 better. An all around win win!

I was useing a G19 as my E.D.C. gun & switched to the SD9VE. It fits my hands better and I don't notice the trigger difference at all. Its as accurate & reliable as the G19 IMO. Eather the SD9VE or the SD40VE makes a fine gun at a great price!

My SD9 is more accurate and the grip feels better in my hand than my Glock 17 and H&K USP that I paid $875 for, plus a life-time warranty from a company with great customer service. Yes the trigger is a little heavier but I'm not crazy about real light triggers anyway. I like the trigger just the way it is. I hope S&W will produce a SD9 the size of the M&P Shield. At that price they would sell like hot cakes.

As most here saw I asked about the 1911s & striker fired designs.I used the SD9VE as a example, it would seem most thought very low of it! This is something I don't understand! I have shot at least 11 or 12 SD9VEs or SIGMAS & never not had one that went bang! All of them were accurate & reliable! The only real complaint I have seen was the trigger. Which is not that hard to fix. I have not seen any that broke or were unreliable. It has done just as well as the Glocks I have shot & used. I cannot find anything wrong with it as a E.D.C.gun! I will keep useing mine. I am even thinking of getting a SD40VE! IMO they are still one of the best buys on the market!

I agree with you Krupp.

Every bit as good as the Glocks and better imo...mostly the ergonomics are very impressive and the price.

I plan on getting another so to have one to carry and one at home.

Wasn't there a heavier "NewYork" trigger on the Glocks at one point? How heavy were these I wonder. The 7.5 pounds on the SD9 is definitely ok by me.

Though I am curious as to how easy it is to install the Apex.

I know people that are still shooting their Sigmas & still having no problems. I know of 2 that have a high number of rounds put thru them as range pistol's neather one has had any problems and are still doing fine! The SD9VE & SD40VE owners I know are happy with theirs & use them as E.D.C. guns. I know one SD40VE owner that uses his to test loads in! That gun still works fine! You can use them as a base gun & fix it up. I still believe they are a best buy for alot of people needing a good pistol at a good price!

My brother-in-law and I went shooting earlier today and he brought his nib sd9 out and no problems with the 150 rounds we shot through it. These are some of the best guns for the money made right now. 2 17-round mags, lifetime warranty, and $300 or less if you shop around is a steal for this gun. These are basically glocks without the finger groves and a different trigger. Great value in these s&w sd series pistols

They may be crude and have heavy triggers, but for they're miles better than most anything else at their price point. The "for only $XXX more you can get a XXX" argument will never end. Look at it like buying a car. For "only" $14,000 you can buy a Ford Fiesta. But for "only" two thousand more you can buy a larger Focus. And for "only" three thousand more than that you can buy a mid-sized Ford Fusion. Not all of us have the luxury of buying at any price point, and if there's a family out there living below the poverty line and needing a gun I'd rather see them protected with a bottom-end Smith & Wesson if they can afford it than a Kel-Tec or Hi-Point.
