Ruger has shown a new GP100, chambered in 22 Long Rifle, 6" half lug barrel, 10 shot cylinder, on their TV show "Ruger Inside & Out". It appears to use the standard GP100 grip(the prototype looks to have the COMPACT grip installed)and the standard replaceable front sight. I have been emailing Ruger for several years about making this exact revolver, so I am very excited it is coming. I have a S&W 617 in a 4" and have wanted a 6", but havent been able to find one, so I will be buying the Ruger instead. Im very happy that Ruger seems to be in touch with what the shooting public wants...

i'm in. That would be good fun to shoot. I've been eyeing the SP101 .22 for some time, but if they release a GP100, I'd jump on it.

I was ready to jump over to Davidson's and order one until I realized it wasn't available yet. I've been wanting a full size .22 revolver for a while but didn't like the S&W price tag, the Taurus inconsistant quality, and all of the single action models don't feel right in my hands. I've been very tempted to pick up the .22LR SP101 but have held off so far. I like the concept of being able to shoot AND reliably cycle .22 shorts, .22 long, .22 long rifle, CCI Quiet .22 LR, and .22 shotshells out of the same handgun.

Might just pick one up some day .. I like the SP101 we have . this would be a great piece to the collection .

This will be my next purchase if they become available. Like you, I have been wondering for years as to why they have not done this yet.

Sweet mother mercy, they didn't put a full-lug on it!

I am so tired of so many S&W guns that would've had gorgeous lines had they not a fat lug running up to the muzzle. This Ruger has much cleaner lines despite the classic Ruger heft.

I have an S&W 18 currently that a buddy lusts after; I might just sell it to him and buy this. The 18 is lovely and a classic, so I'd rather it go to someone who appreciates old-school Smiths rather than I who just want something to plink with.

Whoa, that is neat! I'm glad to see it.

I kind of figured Ruger had more up their sleeve than just some new and various flavors of the American rifle.

Another good .22 revolver option is always a good thing IMO.

Will it have a 22LR barrel or a 22 Mag barrel? I hope it uses a true 22 LR barrel. I've thought about a Smith and Wesson 22 LR revolver, but they are pretty expensive.

Word from Ruger is 5-inch barrel, compact grip, fiber-optic front sight.

I've long been interested in the SP101 in .22, but I think the GP100 is just way too much damn steel for a .22 pistol. No way would I even consider dropping the coin on one of these, it's a stupid idea,IMO.
The geniuses at Ruger should be doing stuff that people have been asking for for years, like making the Mini-14 compatible with AR magazines, instead of dopey ideas like this.

Damn to big to heavy, now if they would just offer the SP in a dual cylinder 22lr/22mag set up I would sell off the first grandchild!!!

People actually have been asking Ruger for a mid-frame .22 for years.
Not for everybody, but we'll see how it sells.
