By the time she learns a lesson, it'll be too late.

As frustrating is this may be, I would clean it. As a husband-wife team, each of you fulfill different areas in the relationship. I can imagine my wife coming up with a not so short list of peeves about me. To maintain a non-combative relationship, some issues are best left out. ;)

Good thread. Reminded me to go check my wife's carry gun. She uses a pocket holster so it's not nearly as bad as the pics in the OP. But it still needed some TLC. Did a field-strip and quick clean/lube job. I disassembled the mags as well to insure there was no internal lint.

Man isn't that a fact. My wife and I have a deal: I clean everything she carries and/or shoots ... no questions asked.

She knows how to field strip and reassemble all her guns, but to get her to shoot more all it took was removing cleaning from her "burden". And since gun cleaning is a Zen sort of thing for me it's just not a problem. And besides, she cleans the toilets way lot more than I do.

OP - There is no reason for you to be blowing a gasket over this. Its is a very minor thing.

You especially don't need to be talking down to your wife over it. You are the one making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I don't like lent in and on my pocket carry guns but to find out whether or not that lent is a problem, just let her carry it so the lent can build up, don't clean it or anything and take it, as is, and shoot it. If it works, then lent's not that big of a deal (which I don't think it is really), if not, it should be eye opening for her. Pocket holsters aren't all bad, I use a Remora for both my CM40 and CW380.

I've done this a few times with a minimal amount of lent and never had a problem, but with that much, it wouldn't hurt to try it out and if it still functions fine, it'll ease your mind too.

My wife and I spent a couple of hours this afternoon taking advantage of the weather to go shooting. I am sitting here getting ready to start cleaning several handguns including hers. After I clean it I will load it with our current defense load and put it where she keeps it. That way I know she has a clean hot gun ready to use.

I guess it is a mano-mano thing in our house. It has always been my responsibility for security including firearms maintenance. The big decision is trying to decide which DVD to play while gun cleaning.

At the rate you're replacing LCPs, you'd be better off divorcing her and getting a woman who will be responsible with her guns.

Your wife is not going to "learn a lesson" from this because you're too sweet a fella not to clean it for her once in a while. Also, you're not going to make her worry about it after reading all the reasonable advice in this thread.

Realistically, if you clean her gun for her once a month the amount of lint that would build up in that time (even if it's a lot) won't hinder the functioning of her pistol.

Really, if pocket lint is enough to stop your pistol from functioning, you've got the wrong personal protection pistol.

She goes out to shoot it and it jams cause of all the junk in it, and she wants to go to the gun store and buy her a new one cause this one failed and she lost faith in it..

If a pistol is not working because of a little lint, it belongs in the trash. Plain and simple.

Maybe she does need a new pistol......and a holster.

See, this is the 3rd LCP.... and there wasnt a dang thing wrong with the other 2 but dirty.

lol I quit........this is too much.

Then maybe you should give it up for 40 days :D
Sorry, you used the word wrong way too many times for me not to have poked fun.

On the other hand, if your gun needs to be surgically clean for it to function well, do you really want to be trusting your life to it? Have you ever had it malfunction while it had lint on it?

I just think that a lot of the gun culture of obsessive cleaning has more to do with outdated military traditions stemming from corrosive primers and armory administrators who were potty-trained at howitzer point than it does with how the gun actually functions.

Dude relax, it's not that bad. If it bothers you that much just clean it for her more often. Your wife chose faster access to her gun instead a holster. I think she made a good choice.

Lint is really not going to stop a gun from functioning. You would need a ball big and thick enough to actually cause the gun to fail to go fully into battery. If you have a chunk that big in there, you should go buy a lottery ticket, because what are the chances?

Carrying a loaded gun in your pocket with out a holster is not the best idea as it leaves potential for the trigger to get inadvertently pressed. If a person is diligent about keeping absolutely nothing else in that pocket, then the danger is somewhat mitigated. Personally, I use pocket holsters as it helps keep moisture off the gun, and helps provide a buffer between my leg, and any high points on the gun.

A can of compressed air does wonders to blow lint and crud out of a carry gun. Also, suggest that she turn her pockets inside out before putting them in the laundry, as this may help remove excess lint, and help mitigate the issue. This is seriously not something I would fight with my significant other about. Not to mention, how many points does a man earn with his lady by doing mundane tasks for her that she doesn't want to.

The horse isn't dead. It's two weeks dead, bloated, and blue. Though, I'm sure someone will poke it with a stick anyway..........
