I got a SU that give me NO problems. Fun and light.
for 5.56 cartridge, I prefer the off-list AR platform with MonsterMan Grip and no "evil" PC12276.1 features - so I can drop my preban mags.
I much prefer my LRB M14SA 7.62x51 Steel goes plunk instead of plink
Californians have overcome the pinned mag dilema.
Change to a bullet button mag release (10 round mags only but detachable with a bullet tip) or run a Monsterman Grip with no "evil features" (PC 12276.1) and you can run detachable pre-ban mags if you have them.
Wounding effects are sometimes thought of to be more effective in battle than killing effects (of course its the desk jockys not in battle that think this)
(It takes at least one person (sometimes two) to help a wounded person. One killed person is one killed person.)
I know you were just kidding, but....
I have been known to take a hard fall in the woods a time or two. On a rainy day it could cover your rifle in mud or submerge it in a waterbreak puddle. Who knows, you could even fall through the ice - it happens every year (maybe not by those carrying...

There are also other alternatives.
MonsterMan Grip - looks like a pistol grip angled back and molded into an A2 stock.

...firing hand onto the grip and pull down, holding the pistol grip, belt, and pants. Hand is on the gun so it wont fall out (most good kydex or leather holsters will hold it anyway) and it is covered (by my hand and IWB holster) from any looky-loos - like anyones looking at you taking a *hit...
Training is well worth it.
I have taken a 4 day handgun, 2 day handgun, 2 day rifle. All excellent.
I like to stay in Vegas the first two nights or so, and then stay in Parump on the last nights, and then start home on the evening after the class.
I try to take everything I need...
New production Springfield rack grades go from anywhere between 1100- 1700 depending on the model. Check gunbroker for comparisons before you buy.
Older models sometimes go for less, sometimes more, depending upon the condition. Check M14forum.com and there is a dedicated subforum for...
The front end of the op rod is corroded to the gas block.
Had this happen with my blued model after is sat for awhile. It cleans up, but it is something you have to watch for.
Get a rubber mallet or stomp on the op rod handle with your foot. (BE SURE THE MUZZLE IS POINTED AWAY FROM...
You'll probably get more of a response over on AR15.com, especially in the "Uppers, lowers, barrels, and more" subforum. There is a thread stickied for the LMT MRP series. Everyone gives it the best of marks. LMT makes nice stuff. I am very happy with mine.
Kace-
Sorry for the long delay in response. Finally re-read through this thread.
The mag in my rifle on the first page is a Ram-Line Ar15/Mini-14 combo thermomold. They are no longer being made, but can be picked up on the equipment exchange occassionally.
Also, I have been busy...
