Shot my Marlin 336 30-30 Win today using Remington 150gr Cor-Lokts. The first three (only shot 3) brass cracked in the taper from the shoulder up to base of the neck. One of them had two cracks. Now this factory ammo, but I've heard of such with reloads due to annealing issues, multiple...
So I've got all the parts for converting my trusty 700 ADL to a BDL. The stock is a B&C Medalist.
I need to remove about 1/8" off of the "pillars" so the new trigger guard is nice and flush with the bottom of the stock. Of course, the pillars are part of the aluminum block.
The best way would...
I was loading some 44 mag. Had been doing some real flame throwers: 240 gr JHPs on top of 20 gr of 2400. That's just shy of max.
Then I switched over to making some lighter stuff. Same 240 gr JHP, but on top of 7.5 gr of Red Dot. So, I emptied the powder measure and put the 2400 back on...
Yep, I have 2 of them. This one is a 44 Mag with iron sights.
Soooo... I shot some 44 special reloads out of it. VERY light if any recoil, hitting pretty much spot on at 50 yards. Then I slip some factory 44 Mags in the tube. Yep, they had some punch. All slugs fired were 240 grains...
I have come into possession of a 30-30 Trapper. It's got full buckhorn rear sight and a blade (no bead) front.
This is a cool rifle, but it does not fit me. Stock is too short and very thin. I'm not getting rid of it, so don't ask :).
Anyway, because of the way it fits, the "natural"...
I've started several threads of late, because I'm a newb at rifle reloading. Well, here's another one.
I'm working up my load for a 308 Win light load and plan on using a 125 gr bullet. There are not very many choices. The one I like is the Sierra Pro-Hunter. But it does NOT have a...
I inherited Dad's Remington 600. 308 Win. I replaced the plastic trigger guard with an aftermarket aluminum one. I free floated the barrel from 1" in front of the lug to the end of the stock, then refinished it. The stock has not been glass or pillar bedded.
I took it out today to shoot. 2...
I have made the dumb mistake of using a spray cleaner on my 22 auto. Ruined the finish. I'll never use any of them again.
I don't know of any cleaner from Barrel Blaster to brake cleaner that either absolutely will ruin a finish or at least has a warning on the label about "it might"...
I have a pound of Red Dot that is about 25 to 30 years old. Never been opened.
Dad and I used to duck hunt some and I kept us loaded up. I guess somewhere along the line that pound got pushed under something. I just found it last month. Tag has it sold at $8.95.
Was thinking of using...
With fired bottle neck rifle cases?
Of course they have to be resized and de-primed. But do you do that BEFORE or AFTER they are run through the tumbLer?
Better yet, do you even need to clean the brass every time?
After several threads, I am obviously (trying) loading 348 Win. This a bottle neck case.
I've only loaded up about 6 cartridges so far.
Using dial caliper, the bullet is .348" and the neck ID is .3465" (as measured at the neck expander ball). I've been told that is "OK". Had trouble...
Seems there two ways to do this:
1. Dry type powder lube that Lyman (and pershaps others) offers.
2. Using a neck brush or q-tip to apply small amount of case lube.
I'm leaning toward the q-tip application of regular case lube.
What works the best for you?
Geez! Finding 348 Win anything is tough.
I want to be able to shoot lead bullets and Montana Bullet Works has them in-stock. Going to buy 600 if I can find a neck expander.
RCBS seems to be the only maker, but looks like my only option is to buy the die body, rod, and plug separately...
Loading 348 Win. using RCBS 2-die set. First time for me to rifle or bottle neck brass loading.
I note that after full length resizing, the neck ID is too small to slide the bullet in by hand. It's beyond snug. So I measure the expander ball and find that it is 0.001" smaller than the...
Having recently acquired a Browning 71 In 348 Win, I am working up reload info to get started.
I have read in several places that the Browning 71 has a shorter throat than the original Win 71. It is even noted by some lead bullet makers their bullet cannot be used in the B71 for that reason...
Anybody using any of this brass?
I inherited a Mod 71 in 348 Win. Starting to work on components so I can load for it. Win brass is pricey and can be had. This Captech / Jamison seems reasonable in comparison, but I have not ever used it.
Thanks.
Working on a stock refinishing job. My first. Read lots of threads to become an expert! But somehow after stripping and sanding I managed to get some wood dust down into the pressed checkering. I did not spot it till it had dried. It is apparently mixed with either the thinner or remover...
Well, I've decided life is too short. i am gong to buy me a new autoloader. it'll be 12ga, 28" barrel.
I prefer a wood stock, but i might let that go.
I'll shoot only 2 3/4" shells in light (1oz) to heavy (1 1/4 oz) game or field loads. Whatever I get needs to cycle that with 100%...
I've had this beauty for years. She ALWAYS shot spot on for me. Always. But I do not recall what I used to shoot in it: 38's mostly or 357s. At the time I was fairly a noob and paid no attention to such things. Amazing, I know.
Well, I've gotten tired of shagging brass and getting...
