    What size shot for self-defense?

the strongest .410 is a 5 00 buckshot (stacked in line) and it equates to a light/medium .38 special load. you could use a .410 slug, lighter and faster and about the same energy. or you could just load .38s in that .357 (which i recommend for indoors).. OR you could put some decent...

Picture of my new Thunder Ranch Revolver

i am Really glad they aren't making one in .357 . really really really. i hope they don't think of it.

    Shot the 36 today

i happen to think that wadcutter is just fine and might agree tweaking the powder charge a bit is possible, or powder type even. there's some snappy clean powders now that work well in snubbies. i'm envious, and i don't even LIKE snubbies. .. but it is a blued S&W.. can't fault your...

    Differences between 2 1/8" and 3" barrel?

IMO the three inch barrel is the minimum size for reasonable accuracy and controllability, for many folks. there's a reason that the FBI issue .357 (model 13) came in 3 and 4 inch barrel length. now, carry ammo is your call, of course, but MY method is to train with what i'm going to shoot...

Homeowner Shoots Suspect in Home Invasion

good shoot. convenient for all concerned. could have done a lot more damage if it'd been put off. hope any who practice similar home invasions wind up as conveniently dead. i will attempt, if required, to follow the good example this american citizen has provided for protecting my...

Anybody "unhappy" with their GP100? ..and sold it?

GP100s are strong pistols, but.. smiths might be a little smoother and MAYBE more accurate (or at least, easier to Shoot accurately) out of the box.. and if you shoot either one enough to wear it much you'll be older when it happens.. i'd suggest that shooting lightweight uberfast .357s...

    Barrel length vs accuracy

IMO.. the 'ideal' revolver barrel length, meaning 'best for the most folks' .. at 'practical accuracy' (meaning plain iron sights) offhand, is 6 inches. longer MAY help for extreme ranges, but within 100 yards, 6 inch barrels are hard to beat.. course, everybody shoots different. lots...

Which one of these should I sell?

i can tell you something.. no matter anyones opinion. . it's your gun, your eyes, your hands, and your life maybe. so it's your decision. if you want JUST the collectors and passionate lovers of revolvers point of view, you have that. I sure won't dispute it. if you intend to live or...

Is this the best ammo day ever? (new 19-5) (warning: Gun eye candy)

tis a gem.. may the good lord bless and keep all your eardrums safe .. I always had some trouble with snubbies cause they was Loud. . might explain my lack of high caliber pistols.. :uhoh:

Changing trigger pull weight on S&W

yes. it's hideously easier to make rational comments with facts as a basis.. guesstimates are fine for bar bets, but don't work exceptionally well for firearms. IMO, of course. :neener:

Best handgun SHTF caliber and weight

agreed with many that manly isn't first criteria.. and my standard arguement is ' get what you know best '.. and accept there's NO PERFECT ANSWER.. if you're absolutely deadeye dick with an old arisaka and have a bunker fulla ammo, shoot it. don't let ME get in the way of success...

    Defend the property

ditto 200$ used 38's are easy found, and .357's are possible to find. might have to take a bit of worn blue.. since he's got plenty of hand strength, i'd say the .357. you might look at used .357's on gunbrokers and get a clue what is possible. and as for 'beating up on it'.. well...

Dear Wendy exposes the US’s gun culture

ya'll sure get irate over the blatherings of idiots. my blood pressure is glad i'm a liberal. i just figure idiots act like idiots, and it's not my business to judge em for it. they can't, after all, help it. AND.. there's a social benefit. The folks who admire em are ALSO (possibly...

    changing her mind

recently married.. and shortly afterwards bought a m19 6" barrel.. the wife was Quite chilly about it. and in the following discussion i got ' but what about ME' .. and 'i want a shorter barrel' and 'women need protection TOO' and 'it's only FAIR'.. so i surrendered. :D

yup, some 38 wadcutters would be a treat to shoot. good hearing protection from the get go. let her stay at the close (7 yard) range for a while. build confidence. teach safety. Pachmayers. plenty easy on her.

RANT: Potential "Wolf in sheeps clothing..."
