K31s, K11s, briefly in stock again - Best Swiss surplus rifle to get?

If people these K31's these "kick like a mule"... 1) Never try a M95 in 8x56r 2) Do you have a proper mount on your shoulder? 3) What would the same folks think of a M38 Mosin Nagant in 7.62x54r? The muzzle flash on the M95 or M38 are worth it! :)

    SKS -- worth it?

The price of the SKS has gone up a lot in the last few years due to the panics. Even with the price increase, they are interesting. How many AR-15s have been converted to piston action? Hmmm, might be something to the design of an SKS after all (OK AR fans, flame on! Pitiful attempt at...

    SVT40 debate

For $600, just take it off his hands! The SVT-40 has been selling well North of $600 for a while (GunStockMarket SVT-40 sales). I've bought some rifles that people felt were junk. Found one put back together wrong for a song, correctly assembled it and funcions 100%.

SKS bolt trauma (reposted from gunsmithing)

Sounds like you need to take the bolt apart to clean it, and possibly the firing pin has a burr. Soak the area with some penetrating oil, and let it sit. Soak it the next day, and let it sit again. Yes, the pin can be a bugger to pound out. Use a brass punch and hammer. It shouldn't...

Why the SKS is a better than the AK47 for civilian use

Back to the original question: Why the SKS is a better than the AK47 for civilian use SKS, as it's simpler but only by a small margin. Easier to shoot prone with a standard fixed mag.

    Mitchell's Mausers

The ads I've glanced at recently suggest that the Mauser they are selling is a K98, but it sure looks like a Yugo M48. Lot's of M48's for sale if you look for a lot less $. A piece of paper, unless it's real bring-back documentation, doesn't add any value to a rifle for me. Yugo M48s are...

WOW! I'm glad I didn't chop up my Mosin Nagant!

In 2003, I purchased an M44 (1946, Izhevsk, 1.TRZ stamped) for $69.00 and an M91/30 (1938, [SA] marked) for $40 the same day. Two thoughts went through my head. First, my wife was going to be pissed off that I dropped over $100 on rifles. Second, that with these purchases I'd be set for life...

    Any tricks for cosmoline removal?

Use the sun, wipe it down every hour or so and it'll almost all sweat out. the heat is free, it takes time and patience. Shoot it and wipe it down again if more cosmo rises.

    Mosin Nagant #44

Just strip a bit of wire of the correct gauge, and use the sheath to slide over the front post. Start long and trim it to the height that works with the ammo you are using. No need to file anything and no need to modify the rifle.

    Chinese type 53 carbine?

The OP was asking about the recent imports, not rifles from years ago. The T53s have two stories floating around. Either they are also from Albania or someone had them in storage for years and finally sold them off. Personally, I think the Albanian angle makes more sense. The recent crop...

    Ishapore 2A RFI Enfield

$350.00 is a little high for a 2A, and while not on every shelf these are out there. Recent on-line sales (GunStockMarket: Lee Enfield 2A Sales report) put it closer to $300.00 or less, but you have to add shipping onto those numbers for a comparison.

    Guns America?

The discount between the asking price average and selling price is not always as great as expected. Check out SKS data for a bunch of auction sites: SKS asking prices SKS selling prices Just recently, with some of the panic subsiding (at least the volume of sales tapering off), the...

    Mosin Nagant Shooting High?

Don't alter the sight, that's the worst possible fix IMO. If you must adjust a sigh, the easy way is to take a bit of wire insulation of the correct gauge and slip it over the front post. Then you can trim the wire insulation to what you need for shorter distances and use the real sights...

    Mosin Nagant Ammo

Another vote for using surplus ammo; it's what your Mosin Nagant rifle was meant to shoot. Not a big deal to clean up after. Surplus might not be the most accurate, or the hottest, but in 10+ years of Mosin Nagant shoot, a surplus ammo has been consistent and always went bang for me.
