I also have a problem with it but not in the same way you do. Even if I am smelling the chemical reaction described, I still firmly believe that the metal is giving off a smell on its own. Just like how one poster could taste the metal on his fork, or someone can smell car keys or pennies...

Maybe....I was imagining it on my hands and I was still smelling the gun? Like others have pointed out, this smelling and tasting of metals is largely a psychological thing. The only thing I'm going to do now is clean the gun and lubricate it with Tri-Flow.

Tri-Flow lubricant spray, Ballistol, (Hydrogen peroxide), Frog Lube, Hoppe's #9. Out of all the websites Tri-flow looks the most promising/economically sound with Hoppes coming in second. Nice job Sauer.

I have noticed that all guns and the metal that they are made off give off a certain smell. This is a very faint smell by the way. I don't think any of my guns are odorless, but I'm specifically talking about my glock 19. I can smell the metal whenever I do something with it, and it even rubs...
