158 grain jacketed flat point swaged .357 rounds

I found a source for this ammunition. I'm using it in my 3" 686. Very accurate and I am sure effective for really just about any purpose. Loaded full house in new Starline brass. I like it.

    Knife related New Year's resolutions...

Everybody needs a New Year's resolution. Here's mine. How about you all? I've become so enamored with my Buck 118 Pro that it's a temptation to move some of my other mid to higher end fixed blade knives along. A couple of Randalls, a Bark River Canadian with custom sheath, a Kabar/Becker...

    Truck Guns

If it's legal where you live do you carry a long gun in your truck/vehicle? What do you keep onboard and why? It's legal here and I vacillate between a shotgun, a milsurp with red dot and my scoped .22 WMR. There's also a .22LR coup de grace gun in the console. And it's been used more than...

    I'd rather have a _ than a _

    I'd rather have a .22 WMR than a .22 Hornet I'd rather have a .223 than a .22-250 I'd rather have a .243 than a .25-06 I'd rather have a .270 than a .25-06 I'd rather have a .270 than a .280 I'd rather have a 7mm-08 than a .280 I'd rather have a .30-06 than a .300 Win Mag I'd rather have a...

    Kitchen Knives

Let's show and tell about kitchen knives. To be sure, many have been used as weapons, this is a legit thread! Here is my mixed breed collection. Nothing fancy or all that pricey, but all in all, quite satisfactory in this amateur kitchen. Top Center: R. H. Forschner Chef Next Down...

    Nightstand .38 or .357?

I keep a 3" 686 in the drawer of my nightstand. This one: I keep going back and forth on how to load it. Right now it has 158 grain flat nose semi jacketed .357 magnum from Gold Country ammo in it. That's it in the speedloader. I've also got plenty of assorted .38 special + P available...

Knife combo for upcoming elk hunt

I'm going on a cow elk hunt this December in New Mexico. It's going to be a new experience for me - never done a guided hunt, never hunted elk and never hunted the Mountain West. I'm having a lot of fun thinking about what to take with and carry. Knives being one of the things getting day...

    Incoming

I can't seem to help it. There's always another one that looks like the coolest knife ever. In this case it's a faithful reproduction of a true icon. Ka Bar Becker - Kephart. There's an old thread in here about the knife and it tipped me over the edge. And sometimes it's another one to...

    My best new sharpening aid

Lighted magnifying glass. Not sure what power it is, but it allows me to see exactly what's going on with the edge during the sharpening process. VERY helpful, especially with first sharpening of a new knife when the edge is getting the preferred 20 degrees per side profile.

    Treasure hunt

The Amazon delivery lady that dropped off Lovey's present today was curious about the old house and place. Turns out she's a hobby metal detector treasure hunter and likes to search old properties, which this one is. Told her about my lost Mini Barrage that I'm convinced is somewhere in the...

    Trying to expand my horizons

I own a CRK Large Inkosi. It is no doubt a very fine knife, superb engineering and flawless execution. My problem is I'm old and have gotten used to - maybe too used to - axis and back locks. The frame lock on this knife isn't what I would call awkward, but there's no muscle memory to make...

    Red Dot on M-38

So I've had this M-38 Swede for quite a few years now. Not too long after I got it I changed out the stock ladder/leaf site for a no drill Mojo aperture sight. Which was a big improvement. But. As I've aged, my eyesight hasn't been like fine wine. The rifle just sat in the safe for years...

Louisville Slugger, pick handle or crowbar?

My mind wanders sometimes. This time it's towards a defensive / other purpose item in common circulation. At lease one of all three are at my house and could if needed, be pressed into a personal, animal or home defense role. The Louisville Slugger is an old 36" 32 oz. ash baseball bat...

    Guns, militias, and polling places

There's a current ruling allowing guns at Michigan polling places. I'm curious about how THR members think about the issue. Speaking for myself, I think it's a terrible idea. Polling places should be hallowed ground with everyone welcomed.

    Real world cutting test.

I needed to trim about 4" strip from a 12' piece of commercial felt carpet pad. It's mottled gray with a thin rubberlike coating on one side. So I went to the shop, got a 2x6 piece to save the floor, drywall square and a new blade razor knife. Cut the first 30" or so with the razor knife...

    Underwood

Does anyone have experience with Underwood .38 special ammunition? I recently bought some 125 grain +p Underwood JHP with a very high advertised velocity. Sounds good, maybe too good. Bought it for a 2" Model 60. Thanks for any responses.

    686 barrel project

Bear with me here. I have a 6" 686-3 that I am very fond of. Has adjustable front sight, has had the action blueprinted, a trigger job, front of trigger guard stippled and it has a nice set of Pachmayer grips. It is a very good shooter. But. I don't do silhouettes anymore and the revolver...

A couple from the Garage Sale

I brought these home Saturday from the community garage sale. One is pretty fair quality, the other is just OK. It's a Schrade / Uncle Henry Golden Spike. Old enough to be carbon steel, new enough to not have a serial number. It was pretty rusty and dull as dust. I took some steel wool and...

Electro pen on bolt M 38 Swede

I have a 1942 Husqvarna manufactured M 38. The bolt is marked with an electropen with the last 3 digits of the rifle SN. Is it the original bolt or one that was fitted later?
