It is fairly new but I have had no problems with mine. Any standard AR parts will fit, modify away. I have the Sport version and other than optics and forward grip (just added a small rail rather than change the handguards) I don't plan on changing anything else.

I do not think you "need" it, you're set up is now non-captured as opposed to captured. Easier to change springs now but I prefer the captured set up because the non-captured is a pain for me to put in.
