    New Gun Idea

Also, if you are going to be using the rifle for deer hunting I wouldn't rule out the .270 Winchester, the .280 Remington, the .25-06, the .308 Winchester or similar calibers. Sometimes if you open your mind a little bit to other options you can find better deals. That has been my experience anyway.

    New Gun Idea

I would check out your local gun shops for a used 30-06 bolt action rifle. You can usually find some pretty nice rifles for around $300 if you look hard enough. If you couple this with a Leupold VXII 2-7x33 scope you will have a heck of a nice combination for hunting big game. These retail for...

    Marlin for defense?

The 30-30 is a fine choice for almost all big game hunting out to about 200 yards. Some people will tell you that it is marginal on elk and moose, but plenty of them have fallen to the 30-30 over the years. As for humans, think of it like the 7.62x39. They are about equal in my book and that AK...

    Confusion: scoping my ruger 10/22

I have a VXII 4-12x40 on my 10-22. I like it because it makes head shots on rabbits and squirrels very easy at distances out to 50 yards. Infact, from a rest I can rapid fire all ten rounds into an empty cigarette pack at 50 yards so I am very happy with it! You can pick up a nice 3-9x scope...

Best Rifle in .375 H&H for the Dollar ?

CZ550 HANDS DOWN!!!! Dollar for dollar they beat the pants off of any other .375 H&H. I love mine and I wouldn't trade it for any of the high dollar safari rifles. You will not be disappointed!!!

New Deer Rifle for the Wife... Any Suggestions???

I would go with the 7mm-08 Remington. With that cartridge and a premium bullet you can cleanly take whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn, elk, moose, black bears, wild hogs, and pretty much anything short of big bears (and with proper shot placement and a brave heart you can take them too).

    Armored truck guards

Maybe the M60 would be useful if someone stole the vehicle and you had to disable it.

    strange holsters

He can keep that holster. While he is chambering a round I will be emptying my mag into him. There is no need to make extra work for yourself when you NEED to use your weapon.

    Who wears body armor? Non-LEO's

Situationally if I think that something bad may go down where I will be then I will wear a IIA. I haven't ever worn my IIIA out in public. I just tried it on when I bought it, and leave it by the bed in case of home invasion. Most thugs will be carrying shotguns or pistols. Not many people get...

Have you been in a fight?

In college I worked my way up from a standard bouncer to head of security in a night club. It was a good gig, but it was good for about three fights every weekend. I also did NHB for a while, but after I got to start fighting the SUPER heavyweights, guys six and a half feet tall and well over...

    Serial Killer

This sounds like a shoot and run kind of guy to me. I wouldn't think that he would sit around and admire his handiwork, he would rather read about it in the paper. I think that you just have to pray that you are not his nightly target. I would avoid walking or biking anywhere. I would stay in...

    Armored truck guards

I would have a three man team do armored pick ups. One guy drives full time. One guy goes into the bank/business wherever to pick up the money. One stands and keeps watch on the other two. The driver would get an XD45 with two spare mags. The picker upper would get an XD45 with two spare...

    Justifiable shooting

Ending a fair fist fight by shooting someone just doesn't seem right to me. Ending a three on one butt whooping by shooting someone seems reasonable to me.

    My proposed hunting system

I would go with the .308 Winchester. It is economical to reload, and it offers plenty of punch for everything but the BIG bears out to around 300 or 400 yards. I would not hesitate to shoot elk, deer, moose, blackies, hogs, antelope, goats, sheep, or anything else with it. I wouldn't want it as...

    Attention bear hunters....

I went on my first Maine bear hunt last year. It really depends on what your lodge is providing as to what to bring. At the minimum, bring your toiletries, your clothes, your gun, and your ammunition. The place that I went did everything else for you. I packed WAAAAY too much stuff, but it...

    Hogs in TX

If you have good hog hunting you will have a hard time going hungry. Where else in the country can you get a juicy delicious pig every day for free?

    Nosler velocity for bear?

I shot my bear, 248 pounds, with a 30-06 and a 180g failsafe. It liquified the lung, ripped the heart in half and left an exit hole the size of a silver dollar. I found the bear about 20 yards away.

    Hunting for survival?

When my grandfather came home from WWII he had six children to feed, and with a medical discharge no one would hire him. He poached deer, a lot of deer. Had he not done this, my family would have died from starvation and I would not exist. I don't consider it poaching if you are starving.

    Smallest Elephant Cartridge

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot my .375 Holland & Holland. I have faith that it would get where it needs to go. I have shot end to end through anything it has ever hit. I haven't ever shot anything the bulk of an elephant before, but I would give it a shot...or four LOL.

    Smallest caliber for deer

My vote for the minimum deer caliber (in a centerfire rifle) goes to the .243 Winchester. The .243 has taken plenty of deer, but I consider it the absolute minimum caliber that I would BUY a deer rifle in. I would take deer with less if I have to, but if I was buying a deer rifle it would be AT...
