    Remington rifle with electronic ignition

A few years back, Remington introduced a rifle and cartridges for it with an electronic priming(ignition) system. I thought it was an idea whose time never came. Is it still around? The gun rags went nuts over it when it came out, and then nothing. I haven't seen it since.

Sizing without using the expander ball

I have been reloading the 25-06 for many years. When resizing cases, the expander ball is extremely difficult to pull out of the case. I think much of the expansion in the length of the case is caused by the drag of the ball. I have tried lubing the inside of the neck with dry white mica from...

    Repeated checking pays

Decided today to reload a few 45/70 cartridges. My light shooting load is 45 grains of powder. Set up my Ohaus 10-10 scale for 45 grains. Finished filling the cases and went to the next step, examining the loaded cases under a good light. When I did the first 3 cases looked light. I wondered was...

    Ruger Vacaro

I own a old model Ruger Vacaro with a 7 1/2" barrel 45 Colt caliber. I started shooting cowboy lite "spitball loads" and didn't have a problem. I decided to try the higher octane loads in Speer #13, and got very good results. The only fly in the ointment is recoil. I am familiar with handgun...

    Digital Scale warning

Yesterday, I forgot to warm up my RCBS (PACT) Powder Pro digital powder scale. After loading about 50 cases, I noticed that when I placed the empty scale pan on the scale it read 1 grain. Sure enough the "zero" had wandered and all of my loads were about 1 grain light. After breaking down the 50...

Governor Patacki has enacted the bill to allow deer hunters to use rifles in much of New York. The announcement follows, which also contains info on where it is now legal: SENATOR DALE M. VOLKER ANNOUNCES NEW STATE LAW TO ALLOW HUNTING IN THE SOUTHERN TIER Wednesday, August 31, 2005...

Attn New York State deer Hunters

The State Senate and Assembly has passed and sent to Gov. Patacki a bill which would allow the use of rifles in the hunting of deer during the firearms season in some of the counties of the Southern zone(western part of the state). Seems to be the southern tier counties that border on...

fired case and new bullet test

I have always been of the opinion that when a cartridge case has been fired in a gun, before I size the case, I should be able to insert an unfired bullet into the case with ease. This has always been my procedure when reloading to make sure the case releases the bullet normally upon firing...

    Enfield No 2 MK1 Revolver

A friend showed me a revolver that was "liberated" during or after WWII an Enfield No 2 MK1 revolver. I looked at it but didn't have a lot of time to play with it. I know it is a breaktop revolver, but where is the cylinder release catch (S & W terminology - I don't know what it is called on...

    Bullet Penetration & Expansion test # 4

Concluding my tests in 44 Magnum, by comparing their penetration and expansion in milk jugs, fired from a Ruger Redhawk fired from 50 yds. The terminal velocities are calculated from chronograph readings at 10 feet, and calculated to 50 yds. The results of the retest of 210 gr. Speer Gold...

    Interesting story

Anyone who has read my reloading posts knows I shoot a lot of 44 mag from a Ruger Redhawk. At my club's pistol range we have a shelter with a roof but no walls to shoot from. One day, I touched off the first shot from the gun and was cocking the hammer for the second shot, when something...

bullet penetration and expansion tests #3

Continuing my tests in 44 Magnum, by comparing their penetration and expansion in milk jugs, fired from a Ruger Redhawk fired from 50 yds. The terminal velocities are calculated from chronograph readings at 10 feet, and calculated to 50 yds. The results of 2 more Speer bullets, I have tested...

    1911forum

Does any know what is going on at the 1911 forum? It has been down for a long time (about 3 days, I think). This is a long time for maintenance.

    Bullet Expansion & Penetration tests

I decided to test the bullets I use, in 44 Magnum, by comparing their penetration and expansion in an expansion medium. Since I live in an area where the local newspaper is crazy liberal, I don't have access to much newsprint to soak. Also, it's messy and hard to transport. I settled on milk...

    Ruger Redhawk rifling twist

What is the rifling twist of a 44 Mag Ruger Redhawk? I measured it with a dowel, patch, and ruler and got 1/4 turn in 5 1/4 inches for a twist rate of 1 turn in 21 inches. Is this reasonable, or did the patch slide giving me a bad reading?

    Learned something "new"

While reloading this morning, I found out something that I had to pass on. Don't try to charge cartridge cases with powder before you prime the cases. Yup, after 30 years of reloading the brain can sometimes go into neutral.

New York State Pistol Permit changes - Update

I have actively been contacting people and legislators in New York to oppose the Pataki Firearm licensing proposals: 1) Pistol permits that were permanent, now expire after 3 yrs. This allows local and state bureaucrats to "meddle" in your license. 2) Pistol permit applications and...

    RCBS/PACT powder dispenser

I own the RCBS Powdermaster Electronic Powder Dispenser, and it is made and equivalent to the PACT dispenser. I have heard that PACT has a retrofit to it to increase speed of delivery. I called PACT and they indicated that it would cost $75. Has anyone had this done to their dispenser? Has...
