Which Brand Seems To Enjoy the Broadest Respect?

We all have our favorite auto. The company, brand, or model we feel loyalty to. But out of all of them which do you think has the broadest appeal and grudging respect among the members of TFL? Pick one. You're thinking not of yourself but the candidate you think could generate the best...

Power Outages and the Effects on Gun Ownership

Well, tonight New Yorkers are in the dark. Thankfully, things seem to be "calm" as they possbily could be. But I wonder how many of these New Yorkers are feeling as far as their safety is concerned when they're sitting in their dark apartments, stranded somewhere in the city, or trying to get...

How many of us will admit.....

.....that certain guns are just too much for them for defense use. They're just more than I want to deal with. I'll admit guns like the Glock 33/SIG P239 (357 SIG), alloy j frame revolvers, sub-compact 1911's/Glock 36, snub nose K frame .357 Magnums*, and .44 Magnum (or anything larger) are...

    European Handguns and Stainless Steel

Do European handgun makers have an aversion to stainless steel? American manufacturers (S&W, Colt, Ruger) always come out with SS versions of their guns but Europeans rarely do. And when they do they often contract out to American firms to make it for them. Recent exceptions were the...

New 1911: Which One Should I Have Picked?

Yeah, after all the postings I've done lately about sticking to guns without safeties I've decided to get one with a safety.:o I have no problem eating crow in this case. ;) Not having a 1911 just didn't feel right. It felt like something was missing......... For defense type shooting I'll...

How many believe Caliber Wars Are Overblown

I'm a fan of all the main defense calibers. 9mm, .40, .357 SIG, .45 ACP, and even the 10mm. We all have our favorites but few want to admit that a handgun is "only" a handgun. And in the greater scheme of things it doesn't really make that much of a difference which you choose. I've read a...

    Practice Loads and Defense Loads

I've always shot 230 grain FMJ factory loads for practice in my .45's. Usually CCI Lawman, CCI Blazer, Federal American Eagle, and sometimes Winchester White Box. One day a friend told me I should shoot 185 grain loads or softer reloads for less wear and tear on the gun and its softer shooting...

Do You Have a Gun You'd Lend To Someone in Need?

Quick! Your father, brother, sister, or your best friend who lives alone has just called and he/she needs to borrow a gun for protection. He/She suspects someone has been trying to break into their house/been stalking them/received death threats several times. They have no experience with...

A Handgun You Used To Hate

I used to hate snub nose .38's. I understood the utility and convenience of j frames so I got a S&W Model 640 with the boot grips. I hated it. I really could not hit the broadside of a barn with it. And recoil was unpleasant too. Practiced with it a lot but could not see any...

    Dry Firing a Shotgun

I usually store my Remington 870 PM with the "bolt" closed (empty of course) then dry fire the gun. When I dry fire for practice I always use A-Zoom snap caps. Can this small amount dry firing without caps be bad for the firing pin over time? Or so negligible I shouldn't worry about it?

You've been selected to choose our next handgun to be issued to our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. Being the handgun expert that you are and for your "impartiality" ;) our Gov't trusts you to pick the best combination of reliability, durability, ease of training/transition...

Are You a Devotee of One Particular Caliber?

I was wondering if anyone here through their own experience or choice decided to devote themselves to just one caliber for their handguns? Some of us here are fans of a particular type of gun or a particular brand. Instead, is anyone here a devotee of one particular caliber? Only .357 SIGs...

    Gun/Movie Word Association Game

When you see a certain gun what movie do you immediately associate it with? Two of my favorite subjects. Guns and Movies. :D Walther PPK/PPKs: Goldeneye (James Bond movies) Colt 1911: Last Man Standing or The Untouchables Colt Officer's ACP: Heat Colt SAA: Tombstone Colt...

Let's Hear It For the Autos That Require Little To No Mods Out of the Box For You

Most handguns from reputable manufacturers really don't require any mods for it to work to satisfactorily. Although, aftermarket parts and mods is a "hidden cost" that one has to factor in with certain guns for certain people. For instance, with a Colt M1911A1 or Browning HP I always "have to"...

Will the .357 SIG supplant the .40 S&W in the Police Market?

Do you think the .357 SIG will eventually become the dominant police round over the .40 S&W? Why or why not? *And no popcorn throwing from the 9mm/.45 ACP/10mm contingent from the peanut gallery.:D :neener: Hope we can keep this thread focused on these two rounds and not about your...

    Deserted Island Handgun

Say you're Tom Hanks' character in the movie CastAway. Those FEDEx packages have finally washed ashore. One of those boxes just happens to be a delivery from Davidson's (the internet's firearm superstore) and it weighs and is big enough to hold a decent sized handgun. Which handgun would...

    The Quintessential European Handgun

Which handgun by the folks from across the pond do you consider the quintessential European Handgun? The one that first comes to your mind and embodies their philosophy. *BHP is a J.M. Browning design but I think it belongs here than the other poll I posted. *SIG P226 9mm for me...

    The Quintessential American Handgun

Since its the 4th of July I'd thought I'd have a vote for what you think is the quintessential American Handgun. I can already tell you that the Colt 1911 will probably be #1 based on previous polls we've had here and TFL. But it'd be interesting to see which would be #2 and #3...

    .38 Snub or .380 Auto

If you had to choose between a .38 snub nose or .380 auto for BUG, CCW, or "always gun" which would you choose and why? Say the guns you had to choose from was between a S&W 60/442 or SIG P232.
