    L Frame Jamming?

In September 2008 I purchased a Model 586 made in 1984. The first time I attempted to fire it with .357 Magnum reloads it did bind up on me. I thought it was my reloads and tried several different loads. Some had the same results and others seemed to work OK. I stumbled upon this recall...

    Colt vs Smith

I have a 6" S&W 586, blued version of your 686, and a couple of 6" Royal Blue Pythons. If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the Python, but I also love my 586. All have smooth actions (with the Python a little smoother and better looking), and all are extremely accurate and fun to...

Savage Model 99R 250-3000 Headspace Problem?

Gentlemen, I have a Savage Model 99R in 250-3000 made in 1954. It has a 1 in 14" twist. Back in the 1960's when this rifle was shot regularly it was pretty darn accurate. Over the years I have not used it much but started shooting it again over the last year or so. I could not get it to group...

    S&W M&P or H&K USP 40?

About a year ago I was faced with the same decision you are trying to make. I was leaning heavily toward the USP but after doing my research and asking members on this forum for their opinions, I decided on the M&P 40c. I have not regretted it. It is an extremely accurate shooter for me and is...

Response to Ebay banning gun related items

I have closed both of my accounts with eBay and sent the following e-mail to Matt Halprin. Dear Mr. Halprin, I was very disappointed to hear that eBay has decided to ban almost all items related to guns. I have closed both of my accounts with eBay because of this decision. For the...

What centerfire practice ammo do you shoot the most with the fewest problems?

I only shoot reloads in my .357 and .44 Magnums. Occasionally, when I haven't had time to reload enough .40 S&W rounds, I'll go to Wal-Mart and buy the Winchester 100 round value pack in 165 gr. FMJ. I have fired several hundred rounds of this Winchester ammo in my 40 with zero malfunctions.

Immigration Bill Defeated cannot come up until 2009 now

I just sent thank you messages to both of our senators from Texas for voting against this bill and reminded them not to forget about border security. I spend a lot of time out in the sticks down here and I told them both that I see illegals passing through all the time. If we do nothing for...

What's with Sportsman's Warehouse? No stock!

The Sportman's Warehouse on the northside of San Antonio also has a problem with their reloading inventory supplies and ammo. Their personal defense ammo inventory is a joke! I also sent them an e-mail a couple of months ago voicing my concerns about their inventory. To my surprise, my...

    .357 Magnum and 2400 Powder

Since current load data does not recommend using magnum primers, I believe I will go ahead and unload the cartridges in question and reload them without mag primers. I was actually trying to use up all of my CCI 550 primers with the intention of switching to WSP primers in the future...

    .357 Magnum and 2400 Powder

Gentlemen: Earlier this year I purchased my first 1 lb. canister of 2400 powder to try some different loads in my .357 Mag. Previously I had used 296 and HS-6 with CCI-550 primers (small pistol magnum primers). The loading manual I followed was Nosler #4 published in 1996. The minimum load...

    Brass Shavings Catcher?

Gentlemen: I have always placed a cloth or rag in and around my trimmer to catch brass shavings as they are trimmed off of the case. Surely there is a better way. What's the best way to catch brass shavings and prevent them from making a mess around your trimmer and on your reloading bench...

suggestions on a sub compact 9mm

Smith & Wesson M&P Compact I bought mine brand new on Gunbroker.com cheaper than I could buy it locally, and that includes the shipping and transfer fee. Check out Shooters of Jacksonville, they usually sell them less than the other sellers. He has raised his price a little since I bought...

i need opinions on .44mag brand and speed loaders.

Here is my S&W model 29-2 with 6" barrel. The one you traded probably had a 6 1/2" barrel or possibly the 8 3/8" barrel. I have hunted quite a bit with this revolver over the last 25 years and it has been very accurate for me out to 50 yards or so. I once shot and killed a hog at 300 yards...

Why or Why not the S&W 40 only, nothing else

Wally, I was aware of bullet setback when the round chambers. I also use a taper crimp die as the last step. I should have been more clear on my post as well. Thanks for clearing that up. rr13

Why or Why not the S&W 40 only, nothing else

I am not an experienced semi-auto handgun shooter, but I do have quite a bit of experience shooting revolvers. My lack of experience in using the auto-loader calibers did not allow me to have a pre-formed opinion on which caliber was the best. After doing 3 months of research, I decided on the...
