Am I free to leave now, officer?

I don't get the attitude. When stopped, I'm polite, open and honest. They do their business and I leave and do mine.

house robbed today while everyone slept.

First off, it's great you're actively involved in your parents lives and I understand your concerns. Right or wrong, I share your Dad's views on when to fire at an intruder. I suspect you'll find it impossible to alter his opinion. I don't think you should try. A gun handling course and...

Transporting a handgun from NC to NJ on a motorcycle?

I'm the OP. After careful consideration, I concluded it's legal to transport a handgun between residences in NC & NJ. I'm of the opinion an acceptable methodology would be with an unloaded weapon, ammo and magazines, legal in NJ, all locked in separate panniers on the motorcycle and with...

Transporting a handgun from NC to NJ on a motorcycle?

Thanks for all the comments so far. The bike is a BMW r1200 GS Adventure. The residence has been temporary for months, waiting until the existing home in NC sells, so I can buy a permanent home. New job's the reason. I do like southern NJ. I want to bring one of the bikes up now that the...

Transporting a handgun from NC to NJ on a motorcycle?

Well, there's something I hadn't thought about. I'd just presumed it would be possible to keep a legally purchased weapon in my residence, as long as I could get it there. More reading to do.

Transporting a handgun from NC to NJ on a motorcycle?

I would like to transport a handgun from my primary residence in NC (where I have a CCL) to my temporary apartment in NJ. I would be on a motorcycle, with the firearm unloaded and locked in a pannier (metal side case) and a couple of boxes of ammunition, locked in a separate pannier. I would...

    My Home Was Burglarized

Look, I'm a supporter of the 2nd amendment, own and shoot lots of guns and like the fact I can carry concealed. Perhaps I didn't express myself correctly. I'm against 'God-Given rights' used as excuse for (imo) extremely lax gun security practices. I would prefer empty homes not have guns...

    Very well said.

    My Home Was Burglarized

Yeah, absolutes are difficult. My second floor bolted 1000lb safe is not going to be carried out the back door. Could it be broken into? Sure. Right guy, right tools. But I've taken reasonable efforts to keep my weapons out of the hands of criminals. Most guns used in crimes are illegal guns...

    My Home Was Burglarized

Ok. Agree to disagree. While I enjoy shooting targets and collecting handguns I do recognize the primary function of a pistol is to kill. My job1 is to keep it secure. For you, defense of family takes precedence. Fair enough. Where we disagree is regarding an unsecured gun when you're not at...

    My Home Was Burglarized

Well, I think "hanging off a headboard" is NOT secure when not at home. Personally, 'secured' means locked in a container not easily broken into or removed. Mine's a full-size safe bolted to the floor upstairs.

    My Home Was Burglarized

Said more directly than I did earlier. And better. The number one responsibility of a gun owner is to ensure the weapon doesn't fall into irresponsible hands. Leaving an unsecured weapon out of your immediate control is flat out wrong. Some of you guys are paranoid about potential break ins...

Great, another gun on the street. Flat out wrong.

    Berni Goetz Whats your take

Ya, I don't argue the philosophical point. But in the meantime, it's still the law in NY. Just ask that football player. Generally speaking, I try to live my life without committing felonies. I wouldn't carry a gun where it's a felony. One who must should move.

    Berni Goetz Whats your take

I'm supposed to move to NJ. I might make it PA because of the cc laws in NJ. If I decide to go with NJ since it's where the job is, I won't carry my guns, it being illegal and all. All this bs about the blacks being criminals. Well, so was BG. Obey the laws where you live. If you don't...

Brady Campaign on Oprah this Monday at 4pm ET

I don't understand the syndrome reference. I've come to accept a man's word about his religious beliefs. He says he's Christian, good enough for me. And like you, it doesn't matter to me at all. Just what's in a mans heart, s'all. Don't forget many Dems are anti more restrictive gun laws...

Brady Campaign on Oprah this Monday at 4pm ET

I'd take that bet. And he's not Muslim. I support the right of that young man to have his point of view heard. I think his opinion is understandable, given what he's been through. I don't share his perspective, but I can understand it.

    Parking Lots & Shopping

I travel all over the States, use all kinds of parking lots, usually in the evening, have been approached hundreds of times and have never had a problem. Not once. Be friendly, decline to give handouts if you like (I always say 'sorry, I don't have any extra cash'). Don't live a life of fear.

Which CCW for hot FL weather?

I carry a Kahr pm9 in a pocket holster. I've got a bunch of concealable guns, but this is the one I like the best in hot weather. It's fun to shoot at the range too.
