it is also quite easy to modify the factory one with a dremel or jeweler files, and save the money for really good stuff like the Volquartsen target hammer that reduces the trigger pull to about 4 lb.

Is the bolt supposed to lock back after the last shot when OEM? The reason I ask, I shot my 10/22 for the first time in years and after the last round the bolt was forward. I don't care for clicks with rimfires.

Thanks,

Clutch

Clutch: no, there is no last shot hold open.

I modified mine to auto release and it kept locking itself back while I was shooting. I replaced mine with a factory and I have a terrible time getting it to release.

here is the one I modified. anybody know where I've gone wrong and why I periodically lock back when firing (firing mostly level, no shooting in creeks or at squirrels at this time)

No, that's a rather extensive modification to make, requiring modified internals (don't remember the details) AND modified magazines

Not worth the trouble, as far as I'm concerned.

The 10 22 is not a last shot hold open gun without some mods.

As to the work that was done to the factory bolt stop, I think the issue is where I have edited in the attached pic. Why not just buy the volquartsen for $8?

The volquartsen is more rounded.

I actually spent the evening looking around and found my solution. There's a spring in there that puts tension on the bolt hold open. When I put the gun back together after making the mod I put the spring back in, but not in the right way. there was no tension on it.

when correctly assembled it seems to be working fine. I appreciate you taking a stab at it nomoreop4, and if it still isn't working right I will buy the VQ and be done with it.
