10 22, nikon prostaff and ammo question.

I have a ruger 10 22 that has a Nikon prostaff rimfire bdc scope on it, I love the setup up but I am having some trouble with ammo.

I've tried bulk pack blazer and it doesn't work well with the bdc at all, and I've tried federal gold medal but it doesn't do any better with the bdc and it doesn't cycle reliably.

I need suggestions for ammo that works well with this scope and cycles reliably in a 10 22, ammo is to pricy these days to try a box of everything.

Ideas?

I'm confused. I don't understand what you mean when you say the ammo doesn't work well with the scope. As far as reliable function, CCI MiniMags work in every .22 rifle and pistol I own. Problem is finding them. Or any other .22 LR for that matter.

I assume he means the bullets drop at different rates than the bdc settings. I have a couple of BSA sweet 22's, they have 3 different turret caps and none will set up accurately. The best I have got is you sight in at 50yds and set the turret cap at 50, set it to 100yds and you are still low at 100. Takes a setting of about 120yds to drop bullets in at 100 yds. This is done with Fed bulk (550 pk) or fed 510's bought from walmart back when they had them shot thru a 10-22 with 16" barrel at 1260 fps mv. It is way worse when using Wolf MT, in the same gun at 1060 mv. By the way, the feds drop between 5 and 6 inches from 50 to 100 yds. Can't remember what the Wolf drops, haven't had enough of them to shoot at 100 lately.

If you don't mind a little tinkering, drop over to rimfire central.com and look at the 10-22 section. Lots of stickies to easily and cheaply modify your 10-22 to shoot almost any ammo. I won't try to describe mods here, much better to read first hand. Right now I would try to shoot anything I could get. And when and if the ammo situation improves, pick up a brick of feds or two every time you go to walmart and the next shortage won't hurt so bad.

double boogey, you have the right idea here, the rounds I have found fall at a different rate than the bdc reticle (i.e. I have the target at 100 meters and when I use the 100 meter point on the reticle it hits way low).

I found the solution, here it is incase anyone ever finds themselves in the same situation:

you just select your scope, the brand of ammo, which loading for that brand, what range you zeroed at and the distance of your target and it will tell you how high or low it will shoot as well as the range at which each bdc is accurate.

It even has settings for wind direction, speed, the up or down angle for your target, elevation and humidity. I'm a little lost in this, it's seems to have all the data I would reasonably have a need for.
