Gents,
In a recent post I stated that I had long wanted a 10mm Commander. I found a Dan Wesson 10mm PT-C bobtail, and scooped it up. Mind you this is my fourth Dan Wesson 10mm 1911 (I am a sucker for 10mm 1911s), and the other three did not work new in the box. I figured my luck was due for a change. The gun was shipped to my smith, and I asked him to check it out before I got it. I failed to provide him any 10mm and that was purely my fault. He doesn't shoot that round so he did not have any. He went over the gun superficially and did not see any obvious flaws. My Patriot 10mm had too short of an ejector, and that was obvious. Nothing that glaringly wrong with the PT-C.
When I got it home I found the rear tritium was dead. Oh well, not DWs fault necessarily. I had a Glock 19 do that years ago, sent it back, got it back dead again, sent it back.....long story. Called DW and they want me to send them the sight or the whole gun. I asked if they could send me a different sight to put on while I am without the XS rear, and they agreed. It isn't here yet, but I assume they have sent it.
Off to the range today with the DW and my newly acquired XD9. I had some Federal and Hornady JHPs for the DW. Load up the first round, bang, bang, jam. Hmm. Round didn't feed. Clear that, bang, jam. Round didn't feed. Clear. Bang, jam. Round nose up in breach, mag won't drop. Fumble around a bit to clear that. Maybe it is the mag, so I change mags and ammo. Bang, jam. Clear. Bang, jam. Stop shooting as it is pointless to continue. Any other brand of gun perhaps I would have tried further, but I have been there done that before with Dan Wesson. Off to my smith goes this one. The sights will go to as they leave much to be desired IMHO.
So now that is 4 Dan Wessons, 100% failure out of the box. Quality control? They never heard of it. Why did I buy one again? Well the rest were fixable with minimal investment on my part, and I am sure this one will be to. For the money I got a base gun needing some minor tweaking and it will be good to go. Still, my Kimber HD II was along and topped its 300th round without a malfunction or cleaning. Seems someone knows how to make a working 1911 out of the box. Will I buy another DW, H**L NO!

(PS the XD9 ran fantastic, so I bought another one when I got home. Notice DW did not get my remaining few dimes)
