My point was the 10MM isn’t the only woods gun. Plenty of stories attest with proper ammo a .40 is a very valid boonies round.
And plenty of stories Attest that the even the 10mm is marginal.....if a 200 GR at 1200 is "marginal" then the exact same bullet at 1000 is even marginal-er. Lol.
As far as woods and hunting, the 10mm was the only one with range and power to be a valid woods gun. Its also the only one thats commonly equipped with a 6 inch barrel for the states that require it for hunting. Sig didn't make 6 inch 226 in 40 or 9. Glocks long slide 9 and 40 aren't 6 inch. But because of the intended usage the 10s ship with 6 inch barrels.
I carry a 40 despite owning 10 or more 10mms. I grew up walking around in the Appalachian mountains alone with a red Ryder or 22. I, to this day, wander about without a gun quite often. I'm certainly not arguing the 10 is anything magical or required for anyone. I feel that for any given usage there is a far better gun. Lol. To me the ten is the perfect jack of all trades/Master of none. If you could only have one gun for sd/ccw/feeding the family and anything else....the ten is probably the best choice. But where is the fun in that. Simply saying that if you wanted a semi auto to hunt with the 10mm was the only mass produced semi auto that was viable. Especially in a state that needed a 6 inch barrel (mine isn't one and i often take whitetail with a 4 inch 44 mag) You could get a Glock/1911/witness hunter since the 90s-2000s in a 6 inch.
People are funny. They think the 38 special is just unethical and puny for a hunting gun....and the 357 is perfect . Same for the 44 special vs the 44 magnum. Ive even see people buy a 357 or 44 mag because it's "powerful enough to kill deer" and then carry out loaded with specials. Lol. ....45 colt is too small but 44 mag is the one and 454 is "overkill". Etc etc. If I'm shooting the 9mm its a more suited hunting tool than most people I know with my 460. I don't think any deer ive killed with a 10 would have known or cared that the xtp was going 1000fps slower and the range ive used it at for vast majority the trajectory wouldn't have mattered either. So I'm not saying your wrong. Just that its long been considered the only semi auto thats powerful enough.
There is absolutely no doubt the 10 is seeing a resurgence. It got down to you had to hunt for a witness or buy a Glock (or possibly kimber) for many years. Now there are many options.
I for one think it will die even harder this time when people realize (again) that 40 or 9 is just as good on man size targets at defense distances, is faster to follow up, has less noise/ flash, less weight, and is cheaper to shoot. Just like everyone who bought one because of my recommendation over the last 20 years found out.
And the resurgence has made loading the 10 worse too, since a couple factories are using small primers
