10mm resurgence

It is a amazing pistol…actually less felt recoil than my 20 … which honestly.. has been tucked deep in my safe since the XD purchase …
I’m a solid Glock guy but struggle a bit with the large frame guns (.45 and 10MM). The XDm has much better ergonomics for me.

I sold my G20. Still have my G21 as its softer recoil is manageable for me…but I have a friend who had the XDm 4.5 in .45 and it is a nice shooter!

The XDME in 3.8 is a big want for me as I have the 4.5 and really like it but would like the smaller size as well.

Non in a big hurry. Gonna wait for the next SA “Gear Up” event…worth it for the extra mags…
Grison (misspell) is coming put with a 2x stack 10mm 2011! going to be $950 mrsp, probably $700 street! going to be BOMB

The 10mm never ‘surged’ to begin with at my house. When one of the .40’s I own isn’t ideal for the task I’ll go directly to a hot .357.

Not a dig on the 10mm but I struggle with keeping caliber inventory under control. A few years back I got rid of all the 9mm’s when I committed to the .40 S&W. Somehow one came crawling back home. :(

I’ll sit the resurgence out…I will. I just need to keep repeating that to myself. :uhoh:

I've had a G20 for over a decade now. I don't know about this terrifying recoil that people are afraid of from the 10mm. I can't tell the difference between a hot 200 gr. 45ACP and a hot 200 gr. 10mm as far as recoil.

As I see it, the 10mm replaces both the 40 and 45. The 10mm definitely holds more rounds than the 45 without the limitations of the 40. It isn't near 44 magnum in recoil or penetration.

my advice! never sell your guns. Because what’s Old is New Again

I'm really getting into the resurgence of the 10mm. I want to try one!!!
I would like a ccw size gun for carry, but I have that covered with revolvers.
I am leaning towards the Glock 20, but I am a fan of XDM pistols.
The Glock 20 does fill two gaps for me. I have only owned one Glock a 22c. I never learned how to shoot it. The pistol left me with a bad feeling for Glock and the 40s&w. I need to give Glock a second chance.

10mm is the new 357 mag for guys who want a semi instead of a revolver.

I like the round because of its versatility. For pure large predator defense a 44 mag or similar revolver is probably a better choice. For 2 legged predators 9mm, 40, and 45 are just as good. But depending on the situation I can load rounds in my 10mm that mimic 40 S&W. In fact, so far, I've never had a single issue firing 40 S&W in at least 3 different 10mm pistols. Two Glocks and a Smith. I wouldn't do so by choice other than range plinking. But it is good to know it would work in an emergency.

The best 10mm loads and best 357 loads are pretty comparable. Both are capable of shooting 200 gr bullets to 1200-1300 fps for large predator protection. And while that won't match 44 mag, it comes closer than a lot of folks think

The 357 mag is available with 125, 158, and 180 gr bullets. The 10mm is available with 135, 155, and 180 gr bullets all at similar velocities.

For "normal" handgun carry I use a compact 9mm and am convinced it works as well as anything. I COULD choose a large frame magnum revolver for those times I'm hiking/camping in bear country, but it wouldn't be very versatile for anything else. Too big for practical carry. My Smith M&P in 10mm will come close enough for 4 legged predators, but the same gun is compact enough to be carried a lot easier than a large frame, long barreled revolver. Having 16 rounds vs 6 for 2 legged predators is a plus.

It's a cool cartridge but for me personally I struggle to find the void it fills. It has potential for sure but a lot of people seem to not realize that other options have a lot of potential too, like the .40 and .45. I've been into and out of 10mm a number of times over the years and my current opinion is that it's not worth it, for me. For some maybe it's perfect but to me if I can't do it with a .40 or .45, then I move up to revolvers. Will a 10mm do much better than .40? To me, no so it's not worth the cost. Will it do better than 357 Mag? Again I don't think so. For 2 legged threats I don't see 10mm as being needed, it's not too powerful, I just don't think it does any better. For hunting or 4 legged threats, there are better options than 10mm in handguns. To many it's considered a do-it-all type of cartridge, which is true but it's not more so than other options already out there.

Agreed and in a full size quality pistol if you are going to go that route. I'll admit after all of these years of I don't need another caliber to load I am intrigued and want to try one. I still don't see any reason to put my 4inch 686 with 158gr HPs away when she runs and carries well in the wild...

For me, I can shoot 15 rounds of 10mm accurately, faster than I can shoot 12 rounds of 357. Also when in the woods, the 10mm provides more capacity at less weight.

I have no delusions of taking down a grizzly as I dont have them in southeast Texas. But for hogs, which generally run in numbers, it works for me.

My G29 was a recent purchase due to me traveling to restricted jurisdictions where "peaceful protests" are a thing. If I was going somewhere where I could only have 10 rounds, I wanted them to have some thump. This is my out of town pistol, when I can't take a rifle, or don't want to risk carrying my more expensive Dan Wessons.

I have no problem with 9mm, I primarily carry a P365xl or Macro, or EDC-X9 depending on my mood.

I went from a 1911 to the Glock 20, and it took some practice to adjust to the grip shape and trigger. Now, I carry my G20 everyday. It shoots very comfortably ,especially with the higher power Buffalo Bore and Underwood rounds. It will handle 40 S&W as well as 10mm, and it hasn't had a failure to feed or fire yet. I really like how the Glock just always works.

I may be the only person who is crazy enough to carry a G20 - holsters are a challenge to find and the Kydex IWBs I've tried all get cracks after a couple of years.

I don't know that I would get another Glock now that both S&W and Springfield have polymer options, but I'm not trading the one I have any time soon.

I have the 4.5” XDM 10mm. It’s a great firearm! (Former Glock owner).

I'm sure this is nothing new to you guys, but I've stood 10 feet to the side and slightly aft of shooters pounding targets with 10mm (Glock 20). I could feel the percussion. I can't imagine turning that round loose in a home.

I started a thread recently wherein a salesman tried selling me a S&W MP 10mm, saying the percussion was no worse than .45 acp. Long story short, it's overkill in home SD. In an urban war, maybe it has a place.

It takes 7" of barrel to match what 45super does in 4.5". Anything less then 6" barrels doesn't do anything .40sw can't do.
I would like a Glock 40 with a threaded KKM barrel. But I have a perfect running G30S with a 4.5" KKM threaded barrel .45 Super that does the same or better with similar weight projectiles. But for woods, I prefer 200gr and up and .45 has 255gr.
If I want a concealed carry, the G27 is a much better candidate for the same projectiles. A 10mm carbine makes more sense to me at 10" or more, but at that point the 9mm would fair better.
For me, only if I get a spectacular deal on one.

You make some interesting points, but I have some questions.

Why does a 10mm (most likely developed for a 5" barrel) need 6" of barrel to outperform 40?
What is magic about the 40's powder that it works better in a smaller barrel than the 10 does?
How does a 9mm carbine fair better than a 10mm carbine?

You can find Chrono data on .40 and 10mm and see yourself.
For CCW the .40 is much easier to conceal, sacrifice a small amount of velocity, but in an easier to grip frame. Although, a single stack 10mm( like a 1911 5") would have some benefits over all other cartridges, as someone else pointed out.
The benefit of 9mm over 10mm in a carbine is that overall weight will be less in high capacity carbines. Let's say for example a 30 round carbine with 6 spare mags will be considerably heavier than a 9mm.
40s&w carbine I think would be better than a 10mm one. The projectiles lose their potential after what 40sw is capable of out of longer barrels. I don't want fragmenting ammo for the intended purpose. I want heavier and bigger bullets for more momentum. They penetrate better and carry their velocities more over long ranges.
I feel that a long slide handgun about 7-in barrel would be perfect in 10 mm over anything else. I mean that in a 7-in barrel I would prefer 10 mm over 45.

I have been saying forever that I wanted a single stack compact 10, I love that the best millimeter is making a comeback, more ammo and gun selections is always a good thing.

Gonna buy the hi point 10mm as soon as i can but it wont live a happy life. The plan is to see how much it can take up to and above hot hand loads, all for the youtube channel of course.
