10mm

Well, I could go on and on about the merits of the 10mm, but I'll just say, IMHO, it's the finest handgun cartridge available. I'll never not own a 10mm.

It's a very good caliber that can do a great many things very effectively. ;)

The following are all good platforms...
Colt Delta Elite
EAA Witness
EAA Witness Elite Limited
EAA Witness Elite Match
EAA Witness Elite Stock
Glock Model 20
Glock Model 29
S&W Model 610
S&W Model 1006
S&W Model 1066
S&W Model 1076

The search feature is your friend.

We talk about 10MM quite a bit around here and on the reloading forum.

For me its a great round.

I hear a 10mm is GREAT if you want a AUTO hunting platform. More punch and penetration than a .45. It's like a having a hot .357mag only in a Semi-Auto :)

I want to get one some day.

I really like the 10mm round & if I were to get one today, it would be the G20. My only concern is ammo availability. I had a S&W 1076 that I really liked but sold because ammo was hard to find & was very expensive.

Since I'm not fond of Glock ergonomics, I'll steer you toward a 1911 (both Kimber and Dan Wesson offer high-end 1911-A1s in 10mm) or, my personal favorite, the EAA Witness line. They offer a range of 10mm pistols, running from bare-bones Mil-spec "strippers" that start around $350 up to the "Elite" models boasting target triggers, compensators, optics mounts, etc.
They also offer polymer frames, but for 10mm, I'd stick with steel for the recoil absorbtion.

+1 on the Witness, I've got a standard full size wonder finish in 10mm, and just bought an Elite Match in 10mm with an extra barrel from EAA in .40S&W for cheap ammo to practice with. Absolutely the nicest ten on the market and a pure joy to shoot. Accurate beyond belief and dead reliable right out of the box. With the 10mm you can have 135gr JHP at 1600fps (fast and light) or you can have the 200gr JHP at 1225fps (fast and heavy) or anything in between and you always can reload them to wimp levels for practice. I even have a .22rf conversion for the Elite.

IMHO, about the best round out there. Great for SD and hunting. I miss my Dan Wesson, what a great gun it was a sad day when I had to let it go.

I'm always surprised to read that the 10mm ammo is hard to find and expensive. That is true, but it just seems that the 10mm is one of the most talked about rounds out there and even the .45vs 9mm crowd rarely speaks ill of the 10mm.

I'm guessing it's the limited availability of platforms that launch the 10mm. I realize there are a few, but the number pales in comparison to those available in 9mm and .45, or even .40 S&W for that matter.

I'd love to see a resurgence of 10mm manufacturing. Springfield could easily make the XD in 10MM and Sig could possibly Do a P series, or as is most likely if at all, a GSR in 10mm.

It's a good caliber, but there ain't a lot to choose from, especially something I'd wanna carry CCW. So, for horsepower, I go with a revolver in .357 Magnum and live happy.:D I don't see the need for something that powerful anyway for self defense against humans, but it's better to be more powerful, I guess, than less so. I'm quite confident that a 9, a .38, a .40, a .45 or whatever will do the job for self defense, but it's nice knowing that little .357 cannon is riding on my belt. :D

I'd like to see Ruger do the P90 in 10, what they started out to do with the gun in the first place. I'll not be selling my P90 .45 for one, though, but I'd probably add one.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a .40 S&W round that duplicates the 10MM fairly close. I want to say it's from Buffalo Big Bore or something to that effect.

I'm just going from memory, so don't hang me if this isn't 100% accurate.

If you get a 10mm one thing you need to know

It's an excellent caliber in terms of performance, but it is more of a "boutique" cartridge in terms of availability and price. Most sporting good stores will stock it, but the Wally world here doesn't carry it (at least I've never seen it). It's a bit pricey for plinking, but for SD, it's a great cartridge. It's the .40 S&W's mean daddy.

As far as platforms go, I really like solidly built 1911 style pistols. The Dan Wesson Pointman 7 comes to mind. I've also heard alot of good things about the Witness. I don't like Glocks, but if you can shoot one, then that would be another fine option.

If you guy's want to see an unbelievable looking Delta Elite go to randgfirearms.com.

I replaced all my other carry pistols with the Witness 10mm. I would only be repeating what others have said about its strengths.
I have found that its popularity is on the rise and I hope that this means that more retailers will carry ammo for it.
I did buy the .40s&w barrel for mine so that I could shoot the pistol more without breaking the bank.
