Thinking about trading my 1100 Special Field 20 gauge in on a Franchi al48 20 gauge. Love the handling and feel of the Franchi and the lightweight for grouse and quail.

Have been a bit disappointed in the Remington, thing weighs as much as the Beretta 1200 and Ithaca 37 12 gauges I own. Have a trade lined up for a new Franchi against my 1100 and around $150.

I'm not particularly recoil sensitive, it will be used for upland, no clays or games.

Yay or nay?

Wait... That's the Franchi A5, right?

Those things are freaky to shoot. Real different than an 1100. When I shoot an 1100, I can hardly tell, and I can shoot another shot without bringing it back on target because it's already there. With an A5, the gun seems to dance around in my hands.

My 1100 (12 Gauge with a 28" barrel) is good for three shots in a smooth swing at jumped quail, since it absorbs recoil so well in the action. Maybe after a while, the "what the hell was THAT?!?" feeling goes away. Have you shot the thing, or just swung it? I'd shoot it first, if you haven't! (I guess if you have, then you know you like it.):)

How old is the 1100? Is that an LT-20 or the 12 Gauge receiver (pre-1977 I think)? The LT's are plenty light, should be about 7 lb. in the full-size version and closer to 6.5 with a SF barrel and stock.

Remington's 11-87 Upland Special seems to be no longer in the catalog; too bad, really.

My cousin has a franchi 20 ga for rabbits, and it is rediculous light. Kinda feels like a toy, but makes for easy carrying. I'll stick to my lt-20.

The other day, that 3rd round was the difference between an appetizer, and dinner.:p

I like the semiauto. But I shoot an old 1100 Magnum, an 8 lb. gun, in rough high country. Works fine for me, though I have thought about getting an LT-20 or a Beretta. I wouldn't get the AL48, and I'd be perfectly happy with a 20 Gauge 1100 SF unless it's a lot heavier than I think it is.

On the other hand, the shorter OAL of a double gun is a good thing, too.

Just got the AL48, for my 1100 Special Field and $100.

What really ruined me was Papaw let me shoot his light 20 Browning A5. :D
