I went hunting with my 9 yo grandson with a 1909 6.5 x 54 M-S rifle with a 1x scope. A buck walked by at 155 yds. and I elevated and missed. 2nd shot also missed. Last shot spooked the deer and it ran off.
My 9 yo grandson thought I killed it and went nuts, "Poppa, my heart's beating out of my chest. I think I'm having a heart attack!"
Unfortunately, I missed the deer.

The next morning I used my 1909 Argentine Mauser and killed a small buck but Nate was back in school. The next day I killed another buck and had to get my tractor to load him. (Old age ain't no fun.") That old rifle with Hornady 150 gr. bullets did short work on both of them.

I have to recheck the zero on the Mannlicher-Schoenauer before hunting with it again.

The 7.65 Arg. Mauser is still alive and kicking.

I'm confused a little with the title and story. Is it just the 1909 rifle that is old, or is the ammunition also 113 years old? I've got quite bit of 1940s brass which has been reloaded with fresh primer/powder/bullets but haven't shot much old surplus recently older than 1970s.

Brass is brass. If your's is in good shape, reload it and use it.

Some of the brass was reformed 7x57 brass. It really doesn't matter if it's in good shape.
