$1300 ak??

Why would paying more for bells and whistles be justifiable for an AR but not for an AK? There are high end, low end and everything between AKs just like ARs.

I think "the law of diminishing return" is often forgotten in the firearms world. Personally, a nice Arsenal stamped AK is easily worth the money. The Arsenal milled AKs are POSSIBLY worth the additional money. Anything beyond that you're not getting as much for your money. At a certain point you are just paying for luxury. However, there is nothing wrong with having a luxury item if you can afford it.

I plan to buy an Arsenal stamped AK in the near future. I wouldn't mind a milled one BUT the extra cost IMHO would be better spent in other things.

I think people generally view the AK as a "cheap" or "crude" weapon. It is a stigma that haunts the platform. Once people have compared the higher quality AKs to the lower end models, they typically have a new appreciation for them.

The best comparision I can make is to vehicles. If all you've ever seen, driven, etc are 15 year old, used, high-miles base models (of any given car) and then compare them to a current fully equipped version it's easier to appreciate/understand the extra money. This is like a poorly assembled parts-kit model to a well-fitted all new parts model.

Equally, when comparing high-end models (let's say, stamped vs milled Arsenals or other top-tier AKs) it's like comparing a fully loaded 2011 model to a fully loaded 2012 model. They are both VERY nice and the 2012 may have a slightly more accurate navigation system but no much else.

But I do own a Krebs KTR-03S that is amazing, I traded a run of the mill Armalite AR for it and have no regrets.

No you didn't, you swindled me on a .308 M1 Garand that didn't run right. I didn't even want to do the deal, you just showed up at my door and pressured me into it. Rolling around in a fake cop car, and making suggestions about what your "friends" might do if they knew about all those guns that I own must be nice huh.

The chances of another gun, in that configuration (T&E), When Krebs never produced a rifle in that configuration with a 14.5 pinned flash hider for civilian consumption, with a chinese drum, and let me guess.. 10 bulgy waffles showing up in Albuquerque is next to nil.

So how did that move to Europe go? the one that forced you to sell all your guns?

Which was a crock of ****.

I hope it blows up in your face..

P.S. Enjoy the JB weld that's holding the rail system on.

I'll have to respectfully disagree as being heavier is not a plus for this type of rifle. While the milled may theoretically have slightly higher accuracy potential its not enough to justify the weight considering what the ak is designed for. Not to mention that while the milled has an american receiver and i think american barrel the Arsenal stamped models have authentic Russian or Bulgarian receivers and barrels. EPA regulations prevent american barrel makers from doing as good a chrome lining job as Russia and Bulgaria do.

Hey man, I must have got the gun from the guy that traded you. BTW I am leaving for Europe in August and have decided to have the military store my guns rather than sell them.

There are many. You can't appreciate the quality unless you handle and shoot one vs merely internet browsing...

+1 on Krebs and such being worth the money. My Krebs Tantal is a better built (or rebuilt) AK than the real East German issue AK74s and Polish AKMs the army used to teach me how to make AKs run.

$1K + AK's

I bought an AK a while back and found out the gun I bought was listed on GB for $1600. Another guy said he saw a similar setup for $1400 at a gun show.

It was a Norinco rifle in the box (styrofoam insert) with 3 mags (2 plastic wrapped), a bayo, sling and oiler.

People on another board told me that the rifle was that dear because a very limited # were imported.

While most people would not spend that much, I guess collector's would.

Aside from collecting.....

To me 1200-1300 on an ak = 2 WASRs and a crate of ammo....

I have nothing against AKs I really like them actually. That is just to much. You can buy some of the nicer brands mentioned above for much less than 1200. Turn a few screws yourself and you can get really nice wood sets also. There is no reason to spend that on an AK....IMO.

Some of the most fun I have had recently is taking a few WASR rifles, refinishing the stocks, cleaning up the metal and honing the action. (Big fan of the russian red look or the original com-block slightly used look).
