Tinygnat219,

I thought the process of getting the C&R ffl and finally getting two nice cheapies delivered to my door was Nagant nirvana. Finding - and getting - an 1898 Belgian, maybe even seen or touched by the brothers Nagant, that is an accomplishment! Get a Ruskie 'shooter' - save that one! Yeah, mine pale in comparison... you are my Nagant hero!

PS A picture would be nice...

Cosmoline, Stainz:

Pics will be forthcoming. The bore needs some serious TLC. I doubt I will shoot it. I have four other Nagants: 1 Soldier's SA model, 3 Double Action Russians (including one from 1945, last year of production), and now this Belgian model.

The action is also incredibly smooth (for a Nagant). I figure 110 years is good enough to smooth it out a bit!

The cylinder has some gunk in it, again, I need to give this beastie a thorough cleaning.

Also, NO IMPORT MARKS! :D I am VERY happy over that one

The grips are made of aged bone.

Price was $395, I talked them down to $350. Did I pay too much? I have no idea. I have never seen a Belgian one before now.

As for the smilies, I just figured out how to use an IMG tag and I am having fun posting them.

I recently found a bunch of freshly fired 7.62 Nagant brass at the club range, all bright and shiny like the guy had just left. Anybody want it? Send me a pm and I'll mail it to ya. Can't remember how many, around 40 or so I think.

Rmac58,

I had to have them made. Mernickle Holsters out in NV made them for me, at about 100 bucks each, which is what he charges for any other custom holster made for the other SAAs out there. Here's their contact information: http://www.mernickleholsters.com/contact.htm

They take 6-12 weeks, but when they do come in you will not be disappointed.

I have yet to use mine in a match, but I know they hang just fine from my belt and they look all nice and pretty.

http://www.outdoors.net/site/images/32491.jpgPictures, I couldn't wait for the pictures, so I had to post them.

As I stated previously, this is a Belgian Nagant made in 1898. The Finish is mostly gone, having gained a nice brown Patina, it's definitely seen some service, and there are NO import marks!

The action is tight and DA trigger pull, while being a typical Nagant, is smooth.

I also posted some pics of my favorite "Cowboy Knife" here as well.

Heh. I might fire this one if I can clean the bore out. It's kinda filthy!

Thanks for the link tinygnat.
Mine has checkered grips, and it came with a full flap holster, makes a quick draw rather difficult.

Rmac,

No problem. I spent about 25 minutes on the phone taking measurements and describing the gun. I think my measurements and descriptions were better than I thought. As my Black Leather holsters fit my Nagants like a glove. I don't anticipate to win any matches with my CAS guns, but I do expect to have fun with them.

I did find that SAA clone holsters did an "acceptable" job of holding the Nagants for CAS, but tended to chew up their linings pretty quick.

I love the look of this revolver, and the seven shots. My friend is getting a C&R license with his next paycheck, so this will probably be my first handgun. I'll have to convert it to SA when I get the chance. BTW, this was probably said already but is the best ammunition to use S&W .32 Long? I will buy some 7.62 originally but its too expensive to keep buying.

Man, this was the first pistol, I ever bought. It is fun little gun, one I almost forget about, back of the gun room. If fact it was the handgun bought in my family. It lost shooting time when I bought a EAA big bore Bountyhunter in 45 Colt. It was made in 1936. The commies took the SA's (enlisted model) and made them DA (officer's model under the Tsars) so everyone would be equal.
My little brother called it a mouse gun with a bear trigger.

7.62 Nagant Ammo
Thought I would let everyone know that Stars and Stripes Ammunition (http://www.starsandstripesammo.com/index2.html) makes a load in 7.62 Nagant that duplicates the original Russian Military round specs, so it takes the gun out of the anemic target plinker and puts it solidly into .32 H&R mag territory.

They have the prices on the website.

Below is an e-mail they sent to me regarding their ammo for the 7.62 Nagant.

Quote:
Our ammunition will duplicate the original military ammo in the mil-spec loading, as stated on the website. We also have a soft point loading that duplicates mil-spec. Then we get into specialty loadings with lighter hollow point bullets and a single match loading with is an identical duplicate of the original USSR match ammo used by their olympic shooting team. We aquired one of the swage dies to make the exact wadcutter bullet used by their olympic team. This ammo is safe for any firearm in safe mechanical condition. Call to order, 727-530-1129
Recoil isn't much different, nice to have a round that packs a bit more punch too.

Happy Holidays

If I read it correctly, it's a 98gr HBWC/800fps or 108gr FMJ/1,100 fps - $40+/50. That's Fiocchi pricey plus. The other import - 'Hot Shot' - is more reasonable - if you can find it. The Fiocchi is equivalent to the milder ammo, as I expect the Hot Shot is. I'll stay with my homebrew. Thanks for the lead - I wish the hotter load had been at least a WC, FMJ implies a RN to me.
