Sandwich,

This is getting away from the purpose of the thread. I sent you a personal message on the matter.

You are right again. Anything not related to the Nagant itself I will save for a PM. I didn't mean to move the thread so off track. My mistake, I apologize.

Price Check

What would be a average to good price for an 1895? Its a toss between this and a .357 but if the price is cheaper and the ammo is affordable...well:D

dispatch55126,

Saw your other post on whether to take this, or a .357. However, to answer your questions on this one, they run between 70-120 bucks and while ammo is available, it's limited and EXPENSIVE. This is the only gun that I know of where 3 boxes of ammo is more expensive than the gun.

I heard that this gun can take other rounds like the .32 ACP. Do you know if that is true?

Only with an aftermarket cylinder, and even then, it has to fit right.

I'm a person of severely limited means. Am I insane for wanting a Nagant as a practical-use gun? :uhoh:

I have an "Izzy" too, made in 1944,and looks like it. $125 2 years back with a couple of boxes of ammo thrown in, one Fiocchi. WORST DA pull ever, ok in SA. I did the .32mag/.32Long thing but I feel leery doing so again. Mines an earlier Century import. I bought it mainly for historical and curiosity reasons. I'd maybe like the targer version also.

Dad used his for the glove-box in the car. He had a Colt New Service in .45LC as well, but preferred the Nagant in the car.

Well, I got a Mosin this past weekend, and here I haven't even shot it yet and I'm out looking for a friend. I've always wanted one of these guys. Next time I see one in a shop it might come home with me. So addictive this stuff is.

Must...resist...military surplus...

I've been wanting one (or more...) of these for a long time, so I'm about to break down and order one, probably from SOG. Is it worth the extra money for a .32ACP cylinder? I ask since .32S&WL isn't as common around here as .32ACP, but if it takes a lot of work to fit the cylinder, maybe I'll just pass on the extra expense. (note that the links to the discussion of how to fit a .32ACP cylinder no longer seem to work)

Thanks.

Honestly, I dont shoot it enough to really bother with much ammo. I bought 4 or 5 boxes of .32 Smith Long and still have plenty left.

Id use it if I had to.....but other then that I run a cylinder thru it ocassionally for fun.

Mine is 1926 Tula And i have a 32ACP cylinder that fit right out of the box. I guess i am lucky. I have shot 32S&W, 32S&W longs, 32H&Rmags, 32ACP, 7.62x38R and i load Starline 32-20 brass using Lee Dies along with 32ACP with cast bullets. I don't know of an other that will shoot that many kinds of ammo. For me the the 32-20 reloads with 90gr HBWC shot the best. The 32 longs also shot well. With HBWC costing 30 dollars for 400 and each round only needing 3-4 gr of power i can't think of a cheaper round to reload.

Bought my shinny bore 1939 Tula 2 months ago at a gun show for $99 with holster & highly recommend you inspect one vs buying w/o seeing it. Some I've seen aren't that nice & heard others say "hand picked" ones bought on line had bore issues.

I shot 2 boxes of HotShot 7.62 Nagant I got from Midway and really liked how accurate it shot & the very easy clean up. You really have to appreciate the way this gun works with this crazy looking ammo!

I just shot some 32 S&W Long today and it's good that I like the smell of gun solvent in the morning . . . . Major crap in the chambers, barrel, AND metal erosion out from the forcing cone on the body from hot gas escaping (minor flame cutting) & hot lead spitting out due to no seal between the barrel & cylinder with this ammo. Just a bunch of work with the brass brush to get the chambers shinny again. If you've never shot this stuff, try it but good shooting glasses are required . . . plus 32 cal brushes, case of gun solvent, case of beer, etc.

I have heard of others who had flame cutting also.

The 32 S&W Long ammo is cheap & shoots ok but I can't justify the erosion on the receiver - I'm sticking with the Nagant ammo. I'll stress unload with a bunch of cheap .380 out of the Walther PPKS before spending some quality time with the Nagant 7.62X38 rounds. I really enjoy shooting this with the ammo it was made for.

I also emailed Wolf about a month ago . . . . they replied they have no plans to make the Nagant ammo . . . even though it seems they are telling others they are coming out with it. Uh, huh? :banghead:

Ok,

Here are some pictures of my Nagant Revolvers in their Cowboy Action Shooting Holsters.

I am probably one of the few people that actually uses these revolvers for CAS shooting. Getting holsters for these was an absolute nightmare, but I found 'em!
The dark plastic gripped one is a real Single Action Soldier's model with a lightened mainspring that was an absolute :cuss: to install, but it's almost as smooth as a bad Taurus now.
The light wooden gripped one is a converted Double Action Model that fires in Single Action mode only. The cylinder still spins when you pull the trigger, but the hammer stays in place.

The other pistol is your typical Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in a "Universal" Holster.

I became a member of the 1895 Nagant Revolver Club this week. 1944 Izzy from my local gun dealer. I got overcharged a little bit, but it was convenient and I wanted to support a local business. He had a GI bringback as well, but that was over $300 due to it being a bringback. I'm a happy camper. Can't wait to shoot it.
