1911 Love/Hate

I find it interesting how many post that 1911s are perfectly reliable on threads about unreliable 1911s.

The bottom line to me is that if you buy a 1911 the chances it will be reliable, accurate, and consistent aren't nearly as high as if you buy a Glock, S&W, Beretta, Sig. I'm done spending my money on 1911s in the hopes it will perform as well as one of the above.

I'm done spending my money on Glocks in the hopes they will not explode in my hand.

Really, if bending an extractor is so hard for a person, then that person is not worthy to have a 1911.

For me, its not that its hard, and it isnt, just that you have to do it on a NIB gun from the factory.

None of my Glocks have blown up yet, and they all ran fine out of the box. Same with my SIG's. The last half dozen or so 1911's I bought, all required "something" done to them, right out of the box, and I find that VERY annoying.

Like a much copied photocopy, the more you get away from the origanal, the worse it seems to get. In many cases, the 1911's arent much different.

It does seem to look that way. It is not a design flaw. It is a QC issue. Don't blame the design.

For the most part I agree. The "originals" Ive owned, both Colt and GI, always seemed to work without issue, although the older guns tend to need a little help with tuning for some of the target and HP bullets.

Its the ''counterfeiters" who tend to have their own ideas as to what the specs are and the problems resulting from them straying. Some of those changes are to the point of it being a design change.

I have three 1911's and I've been entirely pleased with all of them.

I do find if I'm shooting that light weight 115gr 9mm I might need to swap to a lighter recoil spring.

I think 1911s were designed to be single-stack, .45 caliber pistols with five inch barrels, and most of the inherent problems reported arise when one of those features is changed.
