question the ammo
I've only read the last two pages, but I'll relate my 1911 A-1 Springfield jam story. I received a different brand of ammo over Christmas. Called Lawman 230 grain FMJ practice ammunition, I got through 3 shots before the brass hung up on ejection, and the new round did not load.
Hanging brass, seemed to my way of thinking be a result of the slide not slamming back with the normal force thereby starting the forward travel before the fired case could fully eject. I went back into the store and asked the sales guy for some 240 grain... he laughed.. yea I'm a newbie.. So I asked for a box of Eagle brand 230 grain FMJ and lo and behold the entire box of ammo fired without a hang. Now the bullet shapes for both brands looked identical, and I really cannot tell you why one brand works without jamming while the other did. Perhaps the Lawman stuff doesn't have quite 230 grains, or maybe the spring in my 1911 is a little on the strong side, but my A-1 NEVER jams with Eagle brand, and I have found a hollow point that it likes as well.
Just what I have experienced.
