My Baers and Colts have always run perfectly right out of the box. Guess I must be one of the "lucky" 1911 owners that doesn't get a lemon every single time.

I agree with sending your SA back for factory service. They will fix it, and you will love your 1911.

The thousands of 100% reliable 1911's with owners that just plain love them can't be all wrong. Still biting our tongues in 1911 land. :)
I hope armedpolak has stopped reading this thread and has sent his 1911 to SA. :)

question the ammo

I've only read the last two pages, but I'll relate my 1911 A-1 Springfield jam story. I received a different brand of ammo over Christmas. Called Lawman 230 grain FMJ practice ammunition, I got through 3 shots before the brass hung up on ejection, and the new round did not load.

Hanging brass, seemed to my way of thinking be a result of the slide not slamming back with the normal force thereby starting the forward travel before the fired case could fully eject. I went back into the store and asked the sales guy for some 240 grain... he laughed.. yea I'm a newbie.. So I asked for a box of Eagle brand 230 grain FMJ and lo and behold the entire box of ammo fired without a hang. Now the bullet shapes for both brands looked identical, and I really cannot tell you why one brand works without jamming while the other did. Perhaps the Lawman stuff doesn't have quite 230 grains, or maybe the spring in my 1911 is a little on the strong side, but my A-1 NEVER jams with Eagle brand, and I have found a hollow point that it likes as well.

Just what I have experienced.

STOP Question the magazine first. It's my opinion winchester white box FMJ should be more than good enough not to jam. If you are shooting with the original magazine I would suggest trying another High quality magazine. Feed lips can be bent or you can just have a weak magazine spring. Better yet Buy Quality magazines like Novak. If the magazine is not your original someone else may have taken it apart and switched the spring backward. NEVER polish or muck up the feed ramp or the barrel on a .45 springfield. Those guys know what they are doing and chances are few and far between you have a bad ramp. You are running ball ammo so that tells me it's not the feed ramp. Check the extractor bevel and make sure it's beveled and polished to accept the cartridge to go into battery easily enough.
Make sure that .45 springfield is throroughly clean to include the extractor well.
Take this problem over to Gunsmithing and repairs.
