Couldn't decide sooooooooooo, I got both. What do you think. Custom work to both guns was done by the late great Master Austin Behlert. 1924 Transitional Colt, next 1975 Browning Hi-Power. Grips are from Altamont Grips, they only carry 1911 grips with the Marine Corps emblem. For only $10 more then what they charge for their HP grips, they made me some to match the 1911. Both sets combined were under $100 IMG_2980.jpg IMG_2979.gif

Nice pieces. to me hard chrome looks out of place on a vintage 1911, but to each his own. That S&W sight conversion is retro-cool.

+1 to 1KperDay's post.

I think I'd rather have the original finish, worn as it may be. But very nice guns as shooters!

I'm with you guys, this was done back in 1980. A NJ Police Officer sent it in, I have the letter of what he wanted done and the work sheet. If he would have left it alone it would be worth about 3x's of what it is now, but now I get the best of both worlds. Apiece of history and a full custom.

Nice.

Do a search on the old 1911's Re: the heat treatment then used (if any or localized points only) is considered "iffy" in light of today's methodology. While I'm no expert, there is something to be said for modern metallurgical science and engineering.

Just an FYI heads up point to ponder (and I'm really not trying to rain on your parade, because those both look great and no one can say Behlert knew not what he was doing)

The 1911 has a carry melt, no? If so, you'd have to have refinished it afterwards, right?
