1st Gen Glock 17 FTF

today my grandpa and i went shooting and shot his Glock 17, XD 45, and SW 357. my ears are ringing incredibly loud but thats a different subject haha.

Anyways,on the first generation glock 17, I experienced one failiure to feed about halfway through a 17 round magazine, and he had two FTFs but i dunno where he was on the magazines.

He keeps the two 17 rounders topped off and sitting in his safe, I'm wondering if his mag springs are worn out? or if the culprit of the ftf's lies somewhere in the actual gun???

might be the magazine. when my gen 1 g17 went back to glock they replaced the non-drop free mag with a drop free. just a thought.

Most failures to feed with 9mm glocks are caused by the slide not coming back fast/hard enough.

If your grip is not locked, the inertia of the pistol is reduced and you get failures.

if the ammo is weak, the same thing happens.

Make sure you wrists are locked solid, and/or find hotter ammo.

If the problem persists, you can buy lower weight recoil springs to get the slide moving better.

My first Glock, a G-34, would only feed hot hollowpoint ammo for me untill I installed a 15 pound recoil spring, then any practice ammo ran fine.

Keeping mags loaded should not be a problem.

Borrow a current magazine and try it again. If it's first gen, it's very possible that the springs and or the lips are worn out.

um i used ear plugs which never stayed in so technically yes but not really lol.

i know we weren't limp wristing at all, if anything my grandpa was hangin on tighter than me and he had two failures....we were running normal 115 grain target ammo

Can you replace this stuff? i know the springs can but i dont know about the lips. He lives in California and wants to hang on to these hi cap mags...

Springs yes, lips no. And yes, if you are CA, that is a problem.
