Getting real close to the end of doe season in Kansas and this doe walked out in front of me at 400 flat. Usually a bit further than I like to shoot but my TC Venture loves the federal fusion 130s and the there was no wind to speak of. Got prone off a backpack and nailed her right in the lungs. Left a good blood trail and only got about 30 yards into the trees, my furthest shot on game to date and happy it went as predicted.

Mmmkay. No pics this time (sorry guys) but a pretty good thursday morning. I brought a couple of buddies to hunt, each one tagged for "anything", and what do you know. I gave them fairly strict guidelines: bucks up to 6pt, does or fawns. We've downed way too many big bucks lately to keep it balanced so it's simply better this way and neither of them was after a trophy buck so everything was nice an smooth.

Four a clock in the morning there was movement. Plenty of it. A particularly nice male fawn with its mom, along with the twins (see my earlier posts) and their mom. Five in total. A buddy of mine started following the fawn in almost total darkness. Plenty of snow, plenty of contrast. I was spotting for him and told him to take the shot whenever he thinks it's ok. Bang. Down. DRT. Great!

We went to get it and what do you know... its mom was standing right behind it and 165gr .300WM had gone right through the fawn and killed the doe behind it. Right through the lungs/heart, through and through on both. A bit of a mistake from his part, he could only see the silhouette, but all's well that ends well. Double-DRT. No tracking whatsoever.

It took us the better part of two hours to get them both gutted, dressed and hanging. Which was a bit of a PITA so early in the morning but you have to do what you have to do. Seven o clock and we got some more sleep. I almost thought this will be an "empty" hunt but it seems even the does and younger ones are nocturnal this time of the year.

when i mentioned earlier that a previously posted .300 mag load would put a whallop on deer this is exactly what i meant. Real happy to hear that both of the deer were taken cleanly and nothing went awry in a negative way, nice job!

Nice!
All bow kills?
Yes sir. I put the guns up about 10 years ago, other than just plinking nowadays. I`ll go bow 99% of the time until my elbows and shoulders tell me I can`t do any longer. Witch started in about 2 years ago with getting a bow with more let off , then last year I had to drop down on poundage.

I’ve been singing Venture praises for years. A very underrated rifle.

I'd say vastly, I paid 200 bucks for mine and its sub moa with every 130 grain load I've tried.
I think I paid $250 for mine in .223. And put Diamondback 4x12 on it. It does have a slow twist. But it shoots the 50ct 55gr Hornady SP to 1/2” groups if I do my part. It shoots the 53 and 55gr V-Max better than that. I think people don’t trust them because they don’t have the name recognition of Savage, Remington, Winchester, Ruger, Marlin, Henry etc. they also don’t have the customization options that the bigger makers have. But you would be hard pressed to find a better shooting rifle.
